kb307
Hello, I am about to graduate PA school in August and have received the following GI offer: The starting salary is $90,000 per year, there is a onetime sign on bonus of $5,000 after completion of a 90-day probationary period. Benefits Include: Medical, Prescription and Dental insurance for employee Paid Vacation accrual based on employee handbook and tenure (88 hours for the first year). Paid Holidays (6) 401(k) – 100% match up to 5% (eligible for enrollment after 1 year) Profit Sharing – Average 5.7% (eligible for enrollment after 1 year) CME Time – 5 days annually and $2500 Short Term Disability Payment of licensure renewal and reimbursement of initial fee Payment of one professional membership $250 annual coat/scrub allowance According to the AAPA salary report, in Michigan, a new grad with 0-1 years of experience received (in the 50th percentile) $90,000 with a $5000 sign on bonus, which is exactly where this offer came in at. However, for the GI specialty, the starting salary is $9650. Should I negotiate for a higher salary or more PTO time, or both? Or is this a solid offer? I think I was expecting a higher salary, but I also am incredibly interested in the job and the onboarding process sounds perfect.
marktheshark89
Its a pretty solid offer. If i were going to negotiate anything it’d probably be to try and get a full 3 weeks (120 hours) vacation rather than the 88 hours.

anewconvert
Not a bad gig. I’d counter by asking for $95k in lieu of $90k + $5k signing bonus. Your first salary makes a lasting impact on your earning potential through your career
