I dont recall anyone mentioning last cycle that was posted on here about receiving one. We receive very little info about the interview process as current students. Yeah I noticed there wasn't any mention of rejection letters last year. Bummer, hopefully I am not the only one who got it Side question, I know you mentioned the balance between community work and study time but have you enjoyed the program overall so far? I wouldnt say our class as a whole are close friends but we all get along. Had a good week of class interaction during PA week last week. So yeah, the program and the cleveland area has plenty of things to do if you choose to have fun on limited downtime.

I’d greatly appreciate it! Hi there- I’m also a first year and got into a a few different programs before deciding on Case. Here’s my two cents- PA school is really hard, and there’s no way around it. I have friends in programs all around the country, and we’re all experiencing that. It’s draining and challenging, no matter what program you choose. I chose Case because I knew I’d get a world class education and get really amazing rotations (Cleveland is literally the hospital Mecca). They will push you and expect a ton out of you, but I knew I would rather be pushed now than harm a patient, fail my PANCE or look like an idiot when I got into practice because I hadn’t been challenged in PA school. So even though I study like all the time, I’m married, walk my dog, see friends and in two years I’ll be a PA who has lots of great experiences. Pick a school that’s a good fit for you, but make sure that’s a school that will actually prepare you for your boards and for clinical practice. I personally love the community service stuff at Case- that’s always been a huge part of my life and was a big draw for me too. I also feel like I’ve made good friends in this program, and the stress of PA school really can bond you together. But I agree with what the other first years on here have said- if you don’t want to be challenged, this might not be a great fit for you. Hope you end up at a program you love!

JNN415
Hey everyone who just accepted! You should be receiving an email within 1-2 business days (I got mine the day after I received my acceptance phone call, which was exactly 1 week ago). I have yet to receive my letter in the mail though. I'll update everyone when that happens!

agymnast
I also received an acceptance call after the interview yesterday! To say I'm excited is a severe understatement!
mortc15
congrats to all of you who have been accepted! And for those that havent, certainly don't give up hope. They reevaluate after each round of interviews and you may get a call after any of the next ones coming up. As I'm sure you heard (or hopefully heard) at interviews from us 1st years, they select a diverse range of personalities and experiences to fill out each class and sometimes it just comes down to numbers, not anything you did or didnt do. Also, as someone who came off the waitlist, I know of more than a handful of us that were on the waitlist and ended up in the class so don't give up hope. If you did receive an seat, congrats again and if Case feels like the place for you for the next 2 years, welcome aboard!
JNN415
@summerschools I have interviewed at another place and honestly I can say I felt much more comfortable and confident with this interview. Overall, the vibe was much better in terms interviews/interviewers, overview of the school/program, and socialization with the first year students.

I definitely felt the most comfortable at this interview! I would say that is certainly the point for the most part based on how they offer seats in each class. They do throw that awkward question at you to see how you react but otherwise the interview process is a short snapshot into what you can expect from the program. Hopefully you got that sense of what it'll be like on your interview.
annepa8
First year students, approximately how many hours of community service do you do a week? And is it mandatory or optional?

And is it mandatory or optional? It totally depends on the week, and it’s a bit more complex than just community service. We do a lot experiential learning along with community service, where we take what we learned in the classroom into the community (I.e. doing health screenings at free clinics, lead screenings, etc). You have to do 15 hrs of community service first year and 10 second year (you choose from options the program provides). It’s really hard to estimate weekly because it really varies, but if you’re not interested in community service you might be annoyed to be doing it instead of studying so I’d take that into account. Personally, I’ve found that Cleveland is a city with a lot of need, and it’s a really amazing experience to not just be trapped in a classroom for 15 straight months. For me at least, it was a big draw to the program.

It’s really built into the curriculum. Hope that clarifies!
mortc15
To add to km's post: If you interviewed and heard the 1st years talking about our wednesday and friday mornings being busy, those are the times for experiential learning. EL and pre clinicals (which run november -may of didactic year) are always on Wednesdays and Fridays, and as stated above, are assigned by the program and mandatory. Community service hours are required for the year, but those can be anything the program deems appropriate. You can also choose to do something else (like back in your hometown) but it must be approved first. As KM said, I believe the 'extra' stuff we do really gives you a break from the nonstop studying/school work that goes on every other waking hour basically. It's definitely a big draw and was for me too.

JNN415
Just wanted to update those who just got accepted. I received my official letter this past Tuesday, which came with instructions on putting the deposit in. Everything is starting to fall into place and it seems so real that I'm starting PA school early next year. AHHH.
Amovvv
Hi Everyone, I am a second year PA student at CWRU and here is some insight. Hope this helps! Interviews: 3 MMIs, 1x1 or 2x1 from my experience as well as an essay portion (from 2016 interview year). You get to meet the current students and ask questions. You will be asked about scenarios, your past experience, why CWRU, why PA vs NP vs MD - be prepared but don't recite from memory - just be yourself + have good questions prepared. I applied in August / got an interview invite in September / interviewed in late October --> got accepted the next day via phone call. Didactic Year: Very demanding. You have experiential learning, interprofessional events, community service, and pre-clinical clerkship squeezed into your schedule with your didactic classes, which will include 12 hour days. You'll feel like you won't have time but they make sure to check up on you and give you resources / the help you need to succeed. It will be difficult but you will get through it no matter what program you choose. CWRU has an edge because 1) they will be moving into a new health campus in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic (#2 hospital in the nation), 2) they are backed by a very strong medical school, with lecturers and guest speakers from medical school classes, 3) the faculty and staff are very experienced and cover every topic you'll ever need to know for EOR, comp exams, and PANCE. Sometimes you'll feel like faculty are tough with you, but just trust them. PANCE pass rates will be posted on the website probably early 2019. Clinical Year: So far my rotations have been Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital sites, with no bad experiences. All my preceptors have been awesome teachers. Clinical year is also demanding with clinic daily as well as studying for End Of Rotation examinations given at the end of the month of your rotation. You never stop studying and you have small projects/papers/presentations along the way that'll keep you busy. Your preceptors evaluate you for each clinical and this is the majority of your clinical grade.
