Noreaster
There's an old post on here with this subject but years old and sort of seems CO wasn't too PA-friendly. Have things changed over the past several years?? I had an interview in CO trying to gain a sense of it. thanks!
MusicalPA
My husband is a PA student that graduates in Aug. We are from CO. We are hoping to get back there, but it seems CO is not PA friendly when it comes to new grads, and the pay from what we heard is on the lower end. Housing cost are ridiculous there up and down the Front Range.
Noreaster
Thanks. I was hoping to find out if Colorado is PA friendly, in terms of working.. like PAs being respected, and the state laws being able to prescribe, and work autonomously, and those sorts of things. I see the AAPA salary stats for wages so, I'm not really asking that here. It seems PAs in CO aren't too active on this site at all but I really was hoping to find out these basics. mayaperle
Hey! I find CO to be extremely PA friendly! The laws are great, pretty vague open to interpretation which works in our favor, I am autonomous in the ER, planning to start a side solo gig, and work wise as a PA is great honestly. I spent my first three years in Florida which I felt was unfriendly. No support, no overhead for us specifically, specialists would refuse to speak to us, etc. and annoying laws regulating us. I know you aren’t asking about pay but it is definitely low, I’m making significantly less here but I love Colorado and my lifestyle so for me it’s worth it.

ephman55
Moved here from MA 5 years ago. I would say CO is not PA friendly in my experience. One MD was quoted saying that a PA is just a glorified medical assistant. Lots of respect issues among docs here. I would avoid it! I want to open my own practice. CO law states a PA can own a practice but a physician must be the major stakeholder....well then the PA can't own the practice can they? Head for greener pastures
ANESMCR
Well...it’s a very NP-friendly state. PA, not so much.
CO PA-C
Yes, I agree to ANESMCR that it is a state that favors NPs. However, NPs also do a much better job staying political and advocating their profession. I have been practicing in Denver for 3 years and find that overall it's in the "middle" of the road as far as how PAs are viewed and treated. Pay is at or above the standards with AAPA salary report, at least based on the field I work in (PM & R). I have friends who work in primary care who are not as happy with their pay, though. Overall I have no complaints and have not been patronized by any physician since I have been in practice out here.
