Florida resident, do I need to apply out of state?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, recently joined the PA side after a while of going back and forth. I am from Florida and would really like to stay here, I see that we have 11 PA schools that I’d be interested in applying, I know that’s a great number to apply to and I’m wondering if I really have a need to apply to other states.

I have some people I’ve known that got into PA school but both of them are in other states now, my question is why would I need to if we have so many schools? At the same time I really want to maximize my chances of getting in the first time. Thanks!

I only applied to my home state and got accepted 2/3 first time. If you have 11 schools that you want to apply to in FL, then just do those ones. If you do not get accepted to any of them, prepare to apply again but this time reapply to your favorites and cast a wider net. Hopefully you will get in on the first go around, but if you do not, at least then you will show you are persistent about certain programs and willing to grow and make changes to your application to be reconsidered.

You answered your own question in your last paragraph. Apply to more schools if you want to maximize your chances. If you really want to stay in Florida then apply to those 11 schoools. Just be certain your eligible to apply to all of them.

Thanks! I added like two more schools in Georgia but it’s kind of difficult just picking random programs all over the U.S.

I keep reading that 12 programs is ideal so I feel like applying to those 11 and then 2-3 out of state would be great for me...just don’t want to over do it out of state. Plus I’m having some trouble figuring out which out of state programs would be best to apply to. Thank you!

If you're applying in GA, don't apply to Augusta.  They favor residents.

PCOM, South, Mercer are out of state friendly
