Hi HOw was is the grading for the course? I saw some online programs give completion instead of a letter grade?

Thanks

You get a letter grade on a Doane University transcript.

I took orgo II with a lab component. It was a lot of work, but I appreciated the video lecture component. It's absolutely doable if you put the time in and yeah, I would say it was a big time-suck with working full time. Biggest suggestion is just to get ahead if you can, I found that easier than doing little bits every day, but everyone is different of course. Got an A in the course and actually really learned a lot. Labs were tedious, but that was expected.

I'm finishing up Orgo I right now while working full time and it's completely doable.  It's a lot of work, but like Synapsem mentioned above, if you get ahead and utilize all of the resources they provide it's really not that bad.

The final is set up just like the weekly quizzes; not proctored or timed and a fair assessment of what was covered over the 8 weeks. Really not bad

Hey everyone,

Wanting to get more opinions for those that were in the process of completing the Biochem class with Doane. Does anyone have a copy of the syllabus? How big of a hindrance will it be without previous college chemistry ( I self teach well and have taken numerous upper level courses online)? What is the structure of the class e.g. lecture/assignments/tests? I am pre-PA is this is the final prereq I need so I am highly motivated!

Has anyone taken the online genetics class?  Does it have a lab component? Thanks for any insight.

Search this forum as there is a thread of Doane U. genetics course I detailed a lot in there. I took it Aug. to October last year. Very doable, no lab component, a couple of writing assignments a week (they are short 1 page maybe page and half), HW that is multiple choice, Quiz that is mutliple choice (only difference in HW and quiz is that quiz is timed) and couple small projects and a final exam timed at 2 hours for like 70 multiple choice questions. I hope this helps. Yes, sign up and the this class if you need genetics.

Is anyone enrolled in the current Biochem course at Doane?

I am just starting and am a bit nervous about the workload.

Hey! I did this course last year and the workload is not so bad. I think I probably spent 1-3 hours a week doing the assignments and skimming through the reading. I worked a full time job and was taking another prereq class at the time and I didn't feel at all (at least, not terribly) stressed out. I ended up with a pretty sweet grade. Good luck!

Has anyone had any issues with PA programs not accepting this as a Biochem pre-req? Also the biochem class states that it includes labs? How does this occur?

thanks!

Does it show that the course is taken through open learning or doane university? Does it show that a course was taken online ?

It is just a normal Doane University transcript. For example mine says CHEM 330 Biochemistry I.

Who's been accepted to PA programs where the majority of pre req courses were taken online?

I am entering into my third year of undergrad, and have completed the required courses to enroll in a biochemistry course. After looking at several PA programs, I noticed that many programs require biochemistry and most highly recommend it. At our school, we have the option of taking a nutritional biochemistry through our nutrition department and a biochemistry course through our biology department. I was wondering if taking the nutritional biochemsitry would be evaluated differently than the regular biochemistry and if this could cause problems later on when applying for schools. Thanks

I have completed my bachelor's degree in Biology, but since I was pre-med back then, I didn't complete the anatomy and physiology course and now have to complete it at a community college. I also have a full time job and was hoping to take anatomy and physiology in a hybrid setting (online lecture with in person lab). Is this a good idea? I've been looking at schools websites and some don't care, some said "considered on an individual basis," and some won't accept it. Am I limiting my chances too much? I want to apply mostly west coast and surrounding states.  I also have to take statistics and I hope to apply for Fall 2020.
      Thanks!

Hello all! I am currently trying to decide between two schools and I need some assistance as I am very conflicted. One program is in person and it is 26 months and starts in July, but I would have to move out of state to attend and would graduate in May 2021. The other program is Yale's newer online program and would start in January and I would graduate a year later in May 2022 but I would be able to stay in state and not move at all since the didactic year is online. The actual cost for the programs is almost exactly the same, the only real difference is the graduation dates, location, and the fact that one is online versus in person. How does everyone feel about a program being online in the didactic year? I am pretty conflicted about it but I would very much like to avoid moving out of state if I do not have to but I am worried that I will miss out on in person interactions at the other program. I am really conflicted on what to do here and any thoughts or opinions would be very helpful. Thanks so much!

      Hello,
I've been searching for awhile. I tried to apply to a course that was offered at a community college, but my home school took too long processing the paperwork they needed, so my plans fell through. My request is a bit specific. I need an 8 weeks course (or at least one I can complete before May) that is Organic Chemistry II but with no lab portion, as I have already completed that part of the course. The closest I've come is Doane but their course only seems to have the lab portion attached.
      Please and thank you!
EDIT: Needed to fulfill Bachelor's Degree before going further
