Where can I take one course online?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've been google searching to no avail regarding where I can take a genetics course online. I am aware that UNE offers an online genetics course, but I would rather NOT take genetics at UNE if possible. Can anyone recommend a university where I can take genetics 100% online? I am working full-time, studying to retake the GRE, and taking biochemistry (repeat course) online concurrently which is why I need to take genetics strictly online. Thank you everyone for the help in advance!

I took a biochemistry class through UC Berkeley Extension program online.

They have genetics: https://extension.berkeley.edu/areas-of-study/sciences-mathematics-and-biotechnology.jsp#availableCoursesPSPS0050

Good luck!!

Oh, awesome!! How was biochem through Berkeley? How many hours did you put into it? Was it hard? I've never taken a rigorous online course before. Thank you so much!

It was good & it was hard. I did put in a lot of hours, however, I can’t really quantify that as it’s been a few years ago now & I was taking other prerequisites at the same time. I’m full time in PA school now so I guess it worked out ok. In all honesty- I had a Prof w/ a little bit of a language barrier (all of our communication was written), which was where most of my challenge was. Check www.ratemyprofessor.com before taking the final plunge. Good luck!

How soon are you needing to take this course? If you can hold out, the University of South Carolina Upstate offers Genetics online in Maymester each year. I took it and it was fairly easy.

I looked into it and it seems really expensive?

Did you end up taking this course? Looking into genetics at Metropolitan Community and came across this thread. Couldn't even find the online genetics class information on their website for USC.

As soon as possible. I was planning to apply June/July, and really didn't want to have this one class in progress. But if it comes to that, I guess there isn't much I can do. UC Berkeley seems like a good alternative.

Penn state berks is offering an online genetics class that is from may to june. That was my back up in case the class at USC upstate was full. Look up the class on lionpath.

I am officially registered for the course! It's only like 3 weeks which is insane. I'm a little nervous for the class to start. It's quite a bit of money since I'm out of state but it's the last class I need.

Glad you were able to get set up for this class! It is really very doable. There are assignments every day, but nothing overwhelming. I got an A with only a couple of hours a day worth of work.

Did you take this one or know anyone who has?

I took it in 2015. The course prefix is BTC (biotechnology), but the content is exactly the same as the BIO 250.

It was a decent class. Just like every other online course, you'll get out of it what you put into it.

Hey everyone, I am putting together my application for the upcoming cycle. I am at the part where I am inputting my transcript and can't figure out how to classify some courses taken as part of my Health Sciences major which kind of 'umbrellas' subjects under health care.
The course in question is: Marketing in Healthcare.
My dilemma is classifying this under either:
Health Science Marketing Health Science Administration Please help 🙃

      Hi,

Just signed up for this forum.

I am currently a senior in my undergrad, I finish in the Summer 2021. My current cumulative gpa is 3.09 which is very low and for my science courses these are the grades I have made:
      General Chem 1 & 2: B
      Biology 1 : B
      Biology 2: C
      Orgo 1: C
      Orgo 2: F(first time), C (2nd time)
      Physics 1 & 2: A
      Genetics: B-
Microbiology: D, I am going to retake.

I am taking Biochemistry 1 this spring 2021 and other upper-division biology courses where I hope to make As in.

I would like advice on what I should do to increase my gpa.  Should I enroll in a post-bacc program while getting PCE (through volunteering/shadowing or getting a job at an urgent care or hospital) or should retake the classes I received a C or below in, then start prepping to take the GRE and going through the application process. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Hello! Would love some advice from other prospective PA students. It is November, and I am still waiting to hear from six schools. I have been rejected from four. No interviews yet.
      Overall GPA: 3.0
      Science: 2.9
HCE/PCE: >1000 Medical Scribe hours in ER and outpatient urology
Volunteer: 900 hours with mission trip to Romania orphanage, soup kitchen, youth camp, community cleanup, etc. Also have 150 shadowing NP, Dr, and PA in different specialties
And thousands of hours with extracurriculars: dance, college clubs (medical and science), tutoring, and was a TA for anatomy, biology, and chemistry

OK here is what I am wondering. I know my application is not competitive... should I retake upper level science courses at a community college or apply for a post bacc program? As you can see, it will take a significant number of courses to raise my 2.9 science GPA. I will do whatever it takes to become a PA. I am thinking I should just bite the bullet and apply for post bacc program such as Hofstra or Marymount Manhattan. Any insight at all would be extremely helpful.

So I live in Tucson Arizona and my fiancé and I just bought a house from his father. I originally was going to be a Clinical Psychologist but the median salary to PhD/PsyD debt ratio is atrocious. I was speaking with a former mentor and internship director now friend who told me that I would be better suited to being a Physician Assistant and that therapy doesn’t seem to have professional fulfillment (based on my experience as a group cbt facilitator.) He is totally right, I believe that therapy is an immensely helpful tool in treating behavioral health conditions, I just don’t think I should be the one to provide said therapy.
My point is that Tucson does not have a school with a PA program. The ones in Arizona are all Northern or Central Arizona and I don’t think I could make living in Tucson and commuting work (the nearest school is a appx 6 hour round trip.) So I am not sure what my options are or if I can do this at all especially considering I only have 300 pce as a CNA and one prereq done (Gen Stats and Psych Stats.) I have been doing research and I really like the idea of being a Psych PA. I thought about the Yale Online program but as it stands I don’t think I’d be a competitive applicant and I live too far from Mesa, Glendale or Flagstaff. Would it be possible to do a post bacc to fulfill pre-reqs and boost my 2.9 GPA and get more PCE in order to apply to the Yale Online Program? I feel like banking on one school isn’t a wise idea?

      Hey Pre-PAs'
Trying to find a Genetics course 100% online to enroll myself in. The ones I've looked at either  don't offer it or it's class M-F. Please let me know !! And it'd be awesome if it was a community college per cost and a PLUS if it was in TEXAS. So again I need a Genetics 100% online class since that is my only class left in applying for PA Programs.
**I just came out of work so I feel like I'm messaging and then re-stressing the critical lab value to the attending hahaaa while typing this up.
