Interview salary question

Recommended Posts

Personally, I usually say "I will consider your best offer." If they continue probing, I say, "Well, I trust that compensation here is competitive based on current market. What do you typically pay someone with my background and/or experience?" When they say a number I keep a straight face, gently nod my head, and wait for them to change the subject. I negotiate after the interview.

"It depends on the entire compensation package, including any bonuses, benefits, and hours I would be working. If you believe I'm the right person for the job, I'm sure we can come to an agreement. Did you have a pay range in mind?"

I have also heard it say: "What is the position budgeted for?" Great replies thank you all! My wife had her first interview yesterday.
