alisons104
Hi everyone -- Does anyone have any insight on PA owned practices and payments from medicaid/medicare? The AAPA report listed here: https://issuu.com/paassist/docs/aapa_summary_of_physician_assistant_ownership is from 2011 and it states that 1% must be owned by a physician in order to be paid by medicare. There are articles stating that the AAPA is working to change this. Does anyone know if this has been changed? I am struggling to find any concrete information on this. Thank you for any insight, Alison
alisons104
This looks like an update to the report I posted: https://www.aapa.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Issue-brief_Practice-Ownership_0117.pdf It looks like any "non-PA" can be the owner of at least 1% to allow billing to medicare. Am I reading this right? Thank you!
jmj11
You are correct. Having been there. I had my SP buy in at 1%. But it could be anyone. It looks better if it is your SP.
camoman1234
cRHC (Certified Rural Health Clinics) can be owned by PAs 100%. See from article you listed, "Medicare’s PA ownership policy does not affect PAs who own certified Rural Health Clinics (cRHCs). Medicare regulations allow PAs to fully own cRHCs. Reimbursement is paid to the clinic."
efb210
I believe the Medicare ownership law changed Jan 1 of this year! In favor of PAs
