MyNameWasUsed
Hi all, I'm a second year PA student and I want to work in EM in either AZ or NV. I have some questions for those who are familiar with the EMPA job market in this region. If you could make a post here, I can PM you or if you could PM me directly that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
JMPAC
Hi all, I'm a second year PA student and I want to work in EM in either AZ or NV. I have some questions for those who are familiar with the EMPA job market in this region. If you could make a post here, I can PM you or if you could PM me directly that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! I'm an EMPA in AZ. The best advice I have for starting in EM as a new grad is to do a rotation with a group you'd want to work with. I couldn't get a single interview with EM groups because they just don't hire new grads that they don't know. I ended up working with the group I rotated with because they knew me and I guess they liked me because they hired me right out of school. I would do EM electives, as well. The more experience you can get, the better.
south
Concur. I am from AZ but attended school out of state. I have found zero interest in hiring new graduates in the past year, and went into another specialty.
Guest ERCat
In AZ it seems really hard to get an actual ER job as a new grad. There are new grad PA "fellowships" at Banner Boswell and Sun City in Phoenix - no formal education; you just start working for really low pay, less than some nurses, and hope they offer you a job after six months. They really shouldn't call it a fellowship. You should try the ER in Lake Havasu or Yuma - both great ERs and at time were open to hiring the right new grad.
