2017-2018 app cycle - Barry University MIAMI CAMPUS

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

Things were becoming very confusing following the other thread because it was St. Pete candidates posting about their interviews. So I made this one to specifically be for the Miami campus. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks for creating this! I received notification on June 6th that my application was received and completed for the Miami campus, I haven't heard anything back since then. Congrats to those that have received interviews good luck! I hope I get called in for an interview as well!

No problem. I was verified 5/25 and received notification on June 29th that mine was completed. I haven't heard anything back either.

Has anyone heard anything yet? I was verified 6/26 and I called sometime in the beginning of July to see if they received my application and GRE scores but I still haven't even received a confirmation.

I received an interview invite 7/31 for Sept 8th.

Submitted CASPA June 12th. I had no missing pre-reqs or documents.

7/14 got an email saying my application is being processed and awaiting review. (at the bottom of this email it stated that interviews will begin in Sept and final decisions will be made by April.) So I am assuming they will have interviews throughout Sept-Dec?

I also have not received a confirmation that my application has been received as yet and I was verified around the same time as you. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

Did they call or email? And for the Miami campus, correct?

If there are any current students reading this, are there any repercussions getting a PA certificate? Will this affect job oppurtunities in different states? Thanks for reading.

Hello!

I'm getting ready to submit my CASPA application to the Miami campus and was wondering if the program needed us to send other documents directly to them other than our GRE scores?

Current student here. I remember being concerned about the title of the degree too, but from what I've heard students have no issues finding jobs... all that matters is passing the PANCE.

Just received an email that Sept 8th interviews are cancelled due to hurricane Irma potentially impacting the area this weekend. :(

I have my interview for Sept 22nd. I'm sorry for those who were affected by the hurricane. Was there any rescheduling information provided?

As of right now everything is up in the air since the hurricane has not yet touched Miami but most likely will hit very, very soon. I'm pretty positive evacuations were mandated so I would call at some point but just be patient with them getting back to you.

They said they would contact us some time after the hurricane to reschedule. I'm not sure where this puts us Sept 8th interviewers on the admission decisions though.

Hey!

So I sent in my application at the end of July and still haven't gotten a confirmation email. I sent my GRE scores to the 5053 code but not the department code. I've called and emailed them multiple times but they still haven't gotten back to me yet. I originally thought the problem was that I didn't send my scores to the specific department code but according to their admissions office voicemail you don't need to. I know Barry doesn't do their GRE scores through CASPA so I was just wondering if any of you guys are experiencing the same issues.

Thanks for the help in advanced and good luck to everybody!

Barry does take a while to send out confirmation emails plus most colleges/universities in South Florida is closed since last week Thursday due to hurricane irma. I am not sure when Barry is set to re-open but I am sure it will be soon.

Yeah I figured it was something along the lines of that, thank you!

Received an email to reschedule my interview with Barry. I have been accepted into another program and declined my interview. Hope this opens space for someone else. :)

Why you should join FAPA by Nicole Schtupak-Zernitsky, FAPA South Regional Director:
It’s a great idea for all Florida PAs to be members of our state academy, the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants (FAPA). It allows for SO much: networking, information, mentoring, biannual conferences and being up to date with all the PA legislation, just to name a few.
Dues go to help lobby for our profession, and protect it against non friendly PA legislation, and lobby to help pass laws that ensure we have the practicing rights we do. It’s also tax deductible! It does not go to pay salaries… I am on the board of directors as the South Regional Director, and everything I, and the other members of the board, do are all voluntary. We do what we do because we believe in and love our profession. If you love PAs, love your PA, want to protect the PA profession, be a PA, working hard to become a PA then support your state academy.
It’s super important. I had no idea until I became a PA student, and even more so now that I’ve become one. You want to protect everything you’ve worked so hard to attain. And don’t think that for one second there aren’t non friendly legislation attempting to sneak into laws. It’s currently happening! It’s bc of the state academy and their political action committee that help to combat those groups.
Non friendly legislation in one state opens the door for other states. We have to all band together in all of the ways we can. One way to help, is just as simple as becoming a member.
Nicole’s background: ER PA, critical care flight PA, South Regional Director for FAPA, adjunct faculty at Barry University, and previously sat on the admissions committee for the PA program.

      Hello,
I've recently decided to pursue the PA field and plan to apply this cycle. I would love to find a PA here in Miami to shadow and gain better insight into what their daily routine looks like. I came across many PA's when I lived in California, but have yet to meet one here in Miami. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
