This is a new forum created by a student of the new Sophie Davis PA Program class of 2020. I created this because I did not seem to find any pages or threads pertaining to this new class. If you are in this new upcoming class please comment in any subject as far as rooming, COL, tuition, etc.

I wish this school didn't start so late in the year. But it seems like a good program, and it's in a nice part of New York.

I'm interested in this program!

Does anyone know if community college classes are accepted here?

Also as long as the prereqs are part of the major curriculum and premed track , it's ok right?

Thanks!

Has anybody received an email from them about receiving your application from CASPA?

Nope, I haven't heard anything yet. When did you submit your application?

You guys won't be hearing anything back anytime soon. The deadline for applications is January 15th, 2018 and they don't look at them before that date.

would you mind sharing your stats like science GPA , volunteer work, as well as patient contact hours. What do you recommend we do, while waiting to hear back? get  more hours? take more science courses? Thanks!!!

@JoJoWondermonkey is the PA club back in session, and should I just stopby on Thursday between 12:30 and 1:30 or do I need to sign up somewhere? Would really appreciate your help with this. TIA for taking the time out from your busy schedule!

@SKH116 yes club is back in session. We will be meeting Thursdays from 12:30pm - 1:30pm until Mid April.

@Ak2011 it all depends. I heard back in March and by April, I knew I had gotten a seat. However, I know of some of us in the program that did not hear back until April.

The month of May is when you hear back for seats from the program. The end of February and the whole month of March is when you hear from them for interviews.

I interviewed back in April 2016 with CUNY Sophie Davis and this is my second time applying. Hoping to get another chance to interview this time around. Didn't hear that I got an interview until March so I'm still patiently waiting! :)

hi! did you ask why you weren't accepted at that time? I'm just looking to see what kind of candidates they are looking for and how competitive it is. Thanks :)

I tried emailing and calling with no response. I never even received a rejection letter from the school after my interview so I am really not sure. This was 2 years ago now so not sure how much has changed since then.

      Hello,
So I need some advice. My top school is Cuny Sophie Davis but I cant decide if I should be a teaching assistant for chemistry this fall or should i try to volunteer/network at Harlem hospital for the 2 months before I submit my application end of October or should I try to do both??? Is volunteering for 2 months even worth it?
For some context this fall I will be taking 3 classes, working one day a week from 9a-7p as a medical assistant in the same primary care office I have been working in for the past 1.5 years and now possibly either being a TA or volunteering in a hospital.
Would either of these choices beef up my chances/ make me stand out? Will being a chemistry TA not help that much and just be a waste of my time?
Should I just continue with my current volunteer position (read below)?
I only have the pre reqs to apply to 2 schools this fall so anything to help would be VERY APPRECIATED. I need help on focusing my time in the crunch hours.
Currently I have about 18 hours of volunteering at a speech pathology center leading a reading group for people with speech aphasia, helping them build their confidence and as a mode of therapy.
      My Stats
GPA 3.42 undergrad  BA in psychology at a well known woman’s college-ivy leage
Post bacc GPA (11 classes and all the science prerequisites) - 4.00
2500 hours as medical assistant in a multispecialty primary care
30 hours shadowing an ortho PA, Derm PA, and urgent care PA
Had a full time job for 3 years in business before deciding to become a PA
      presidential scholar at CUNY
