I have a question if I were to be commissioned as a PA for the public health service.
On their website they say some join as entry level public health practitioners while others are experienced experts trained in public health, clinical specialties, or research.
" When you join the U.S Public Health Service Commissioned Corps you become part of a diverse group of individuals who have a unique sense of purpose. Many career choices tend to lock you in to one career path. USPHS Health Services Officers have many opportunities to work in a variety of agencies and to completely change career paths, if they choose. An early career psychologist or social work officer might choose to work in the Federal Bureau of Prisons or the Indian Health Service. Many officers work in those agencies for the full course of their USPHS career, advancing to higher levels o responsibility, becoming supervisors and managers with regional or national responsibilities. Other Health Services Officers choose to move to other agencies..."

Allied clinical care provider officers in the Commissioned Corps have the flexibility and freedom to pursue a diverse and fulfilling career. Day-to-day responsibilities may include:
Providing patient care in a variety of settings and venues
Participating in emergency operations
Conducting clinical research
Overseeing administration, acquisitiion , and budgeting responsibilities
Expanding knowledge through health education
Shaping health care regulatory and policy initiatives
So from my understanding, does this mean as a PA I can work in different agencies with a sort of different type of job that is similar to a PA?? It looks like less of a clinical aspect, but it seems awesome that you have the opportunity to change to different jobs. Like I am confused when it says the ability to change career paths. Does it mean I can be researching at like the NIH even though my degree is in PA?
Only downside is you are pay based on rank, but heck I would I don't care if I am enjoying my job as an o2 officer being able to work in a variety of careers if I get bored.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR MEDICAL MISSION TRIP August 11th-18th. NO MEDICAL BACKGROUND NECESSARY
I am leading a trip to the Elisa Pina Province, Dominican Republic for a medical mission trip. We will be in the most medically underserved area of the DR. In this trip, we will spend a week in El Llano where we spend most of our days helping in mobile medical clinics and other days helping in the communities where needed.
The clinics will take place in very remote villages in mountains along the border of Haiti. The patients that we see are Dominican and sometimes Haitian that have walked many miles to receive care for themselves or their children. We have a station set up to assess the children for malnutrition. We then give out 1000 calorie peanut butter packets, fortified rice, and vitamins in accordance to their need. Others will be assisting the doctor(s) and nurse(s) with whatever is needed which includes taking vitals, passing out medications, and more. The doctor will be holding consultations with the patients.
For the community aspect, we spend one day in the preschool the nonprofit made to help lower the malnutrition in the area, where most affected are preschool age because they are left at home alone while their parents are working. My last trip helped at a preschool and painted, other groups have built bunk beds for a family or help elsewhere in the community.

In the modern world we all want to be living as healthy a life as possible. But, sometimes, making the changes to achieve this healthier lifestyle is not always as simple (or easy) as we may wish. And sometimes we choose to make massive changes to our lives, practically overnight, which can actually end up having a big impact and it might not necessarily be a good one.
So, what are some of the best things that you can introduce into your daily life in order to ensure you lead a healthier lifestyle?
1) Introduce Spice
And other than making your life just that little bit more flavourful, many spices also have the added benefit of containing oxidants and other good aspects that help the health of your body. Not only that, but spices can also help to replace salt and sugar in recipes whilst still maintaining flavour. Which is vital if you find your diet has too much of either or both.
In fact, - using fresh chilli peppers - can make people eat smaller portions and chillies can actually be fat burning. So, if you want to control your weight then making an effort to spice up your foods might help!
2) Daily Walks
Exercise doesn’t have to be a hassle, nor does it necessarily have to take up your whole day. It can be as simple as taking a short, 30-minute or less, walk each and every day to ensure that you are being active. Even though it may not feel like much, even doing exercise on such a small scale can actually have a big impact and you will be able to see a difference from day one.
3) Introduce Supplements
Sometimes, we simply can’t get everything that we need in our diets naturally. Either because you would need to eat way more or you simply don’t eat enough of the required food. One way to combat this issue is to work with your body in acquiring these nutrients outside of your diet with the use of supplements instead.
4) Sleep More
Not sleeping, sleeping too much and sleep-related. Having a bedtime, whilst feeling slightly childish, can ensure you get enough sleep and set you into a routine which your body gets used to. Having this routine can lead to much more happiness and energy in the long term, especially if you are someone that struggles with having a healthy routine or sleep heavily impacts your life at all.
5) Keep Up Your Mental Health
Small changes can be the best changes to our overall health it has to be said. But, there are also plenty of bigger changes that you can also be making to help yourself feel better in the long term. One of these changes includes your mental wellbeing. A healthy mind has a mountain of positive benefits for your health as a whole, so it often pays to work towards a healthy brain alongside all of your other bodily health improvements.
I just began community service with NY Cares (feeding the homeless, soup kitchen, helping elderly work out..., etc.). I already submitted my application but I was wondering if I should update my application with this since I only have 3 hours. Would it be worth it? I began doing this so I can better my application JUST in case this cycle doesn't work out even though I'm waiting on a lot of schools. Should I wait until next cycle or update my recent application with this? I'll most likely do 3-6 hours a week.
I will soon be starting PA school in the fall. I am currently looking at several routes of paying off my future student debt and thought about jobs that help with loan repayment. How rare is it to come across jobs that will help pay off student debt? If so, how much do they typically help out with?
