jmgibson527
I was just wondering if those who have been accepted to TTUHSC can post their stats? I didn't get in and I was just wanting to see what I should do to improve my stats. I have a B.S.in Biology 3.75 overall GPA 3.5 Pre-requisite GPA 700+ hours of hands-on patient experience as a PT tech and had pretty good recommendation letters (most of the people that wrote me one gave me a copy of what they wrote.) I did not have many volunteer hours, but as far as leadership, I was a recruitment counselor in a sorority and I was an officer for my university's pre-health care club. I didn't have a physician assistant write a recommendation letter, and I was wondering if that is a big deal or not.
paul2834
I believe you can ask the school directly and they can give you a better idea of where you can improve or what caused you to be turned down. Good luck next year!
cinntsp
Did you get an interview or just an outright denial? Was your personal statement lacking? Did you apply early enough in the cycle? Do you fit the school's mission? Are you applying only to Texas Tech? Here are a few threads you may want to check out for more insight: http://www.physicianassistantforum.com/forums/showthread.php/34187-In-need-of-some-help http://www.physicianassistantforum.com/forums/showthread.php/34186-What-am-i-doing-wrong http://www.physicianassistantforum.com/forums/showthread.php/3004-PA-Applicant-Stats-Page
NeoTrion
I know I had a PhD, MD, and Physician Assistant write my recommendation letters. My GPA was along the same lines as yours with some minor differences. I don't have a Bachelors Degree, but have 4 associates degrees with 2 in medical disciplines and a lot of HCE with ACLS, PALS, etc... I don't think my PS was anything stellar, so I hesitant to say it did much for me. I agree with wutthechris that you should just give them a call and see what's up. I know last year my application got stuck and never made it to Midland due to bureaucratic errors via multiple schools including Tech.
rachaelanderson
I'm hoping for a little advice...I applied last year and did not get in (no interview either). I have a 3.6 GPA and have over 6000 hrs of direct patient care. Not included in this number is that I'm a vascular ultrasound tech. I didnt submit my app last year until August and I'm trying to figure out if this was my downfall. When I didn't get in, I spoke with a lady in admissions that told me most students that get in have at least a 3.7 and that's why I didn't get in. I know this is not true from reading accepted students posts. Can anyone who was accepted or received an interview give me any direction? Is it truly my GPA? cinntsp
How was your PS? What about your LORs? What sort of patient care did you do? Did you demonstrate an understanding of the profession through your PS? Submitting your app in August could have had something to do with it but nobody knows for sure except the adcom. rachaelanderson
I thought my PS was good, definitely tried to demonstrate my knowledge of the profession. My LORs were great too as far as I could tell. I'm really in a state of confusion.
cinntsp
Did you only apply to one school? Putting all your eggs in one basket is not a good way to go. Having good stats isn't an instant ticket when different adcoms are looking for different things. You may have just not stood out to whoever was reading your app at TT but another school might think you're the greatest applicant they've ever seen. Then again, it may have just been that you submitted your app a bit later in the cycle.
crystal54321
Follow these 5 steps for a guaranteed acceptance letter: 1. You have to have your application complete the first day apps are accepted. If you don't get your app in within a month of that, the school will not even see your app (does not matter how great you are). Have everything complete and ready to go by day 1. 2. Have all three LOR from Physician Assistants, preferably from ones who have known you longer than 20 minutes. 3. Don't get overly personal in your personal statement. Just know what PAs are, what they do and for goodness sake - spell check. It doesn't really matter about your awe inspiring moment, more....can you string good sentences together, with proper grammar and sound intelligent. 4. Do some shadowing.....with PAs. Doctors, NPs, Dentist and Chiropractors don't count. More is BETTER. 5. If you don't get in the first year, keep trying. Continue to shadow, strengthen your app and show that being a PA is the ONLY thing you want to do.
