CSCH
My program graduates in December, and I'm looking at residencies that don't start until September at the earliest. What do I do with all that time?
Administrator rev ronin Posted June 16, 2017 Administrator Share Posted June 16, 2017 Get a job in family medicine or urgent care. You'll be learning a lot. Note that I didn't ask what your residency is going to be in...
CSCH
My concern is getting a job and not staying for a full 12 months. Will that look bad on my resume? I really wanted to commit to working for a full year in my first job in order to demonstrate my dedication.
beattie228
Heading off for a residency is a good reason to not be at your first gig for a full year or more. If I were interviewing you, I'd be more concerned about a 9 month gap between graduating and your residency rather than having been at the Primary Care or UC job for less than a year. You'll be glad you kept some of your patient care skills sharp by working in either of the two fields mentioned, not to mention having a steady paycheck to help pay on those loans when the come a-knockin' in 6 months time. fakingpatience
I'm currently having the same confusions over what to do between graduation and a hopeful residency start date. Especially since a lot of the residencies won't let you know if you've been accepted till ~ March, I've decided to try and find a job in the interim
treejay
I recommend getting a good PA job. You aren't even guaranteed to get a spot in a residency. They aren't as competitive as PA school, but they're not a shoo-in either....
