For those that got accepted already, I'm curious to know what your admission status is in Assist.

It still says "Under Review" but once it gets the final approval it will change I think

I interviewed on 10/16 and heard back on 11/03. Don't lose hope, they are still conducting interviews and sending emails with invitations.

Yes we should get a official email by the graduate department I believe, but email Mrs. Mealer back about your decision if you haven't already.

I sent that email right away. Just haven't heard anything back since they probably will not see the email until Monday (today).

I have an interview next week. Any advice for the interview? I’m very nervous!

This is going to sound ridiculous but don't be nervous! It's honestly one of the most laid back interviews I've ever been in for school or otherwise. Just know who you are and why you want to be there.

Thank you! Does not sound ridiculous! How many seats are they offering? Does anyone know? 65 or 80 this year?

To everyone who has interviewed: what are some questions that threw you off? Besides the typical “why do you want to go here?” “Why do you want to be a PA?”

any advice is great advice, thanks!

So after interviewing here, I have discovered that they do not offer a medical Spanish course which personally I think that is shocking but moving on... Anyone think that'll be a hindrance in any way? Especially in rotations?

I wish current students had a forum for these types of questions lol

I'm sure you can pick it up while doing clinical rotations. I've shadowed in the emergency room here at Mission Regional and you'd be surprised how many patients speak English, eventhough it's not there native language. You'll pick it up, I learned fairly quickly. Mainly due to the fact that it is all based on Latin which we should all be familiar with.

I was asked, " what are certain limitations the physician assistant has?" I scrambled to come up with an answer and said, "A P.A. can preform brain surgery as long as the Physician is present and gives his approval, so the only limitation is what the supervising physician is willing to allow the P.A. to do under his license."

I think that was the right answer, but as of right now it doesn't seem to have sufficed.

I am from the valley and the majority of people speak English, but their is still a large number of people who speak Spanish. I don't believe it will be a issue. Most Spanish speaking patients are understanding and will bring a family member that will speak English. I have also worked at clinics that do provided translators for doctors and PA that don't speak Spanish, but being in the valley is a great opportunity to learn Spanish and understand a different culture.

Does anyone know where clinicals take place? Is there a hospital that students rotate at or are they all in private physician clinics?

I asked and they said anywhere within about an hour radius of the school. There's several hospitals around the school that they try to rotate through. Private clinics I imagine would be more for family medicine or women's health rotations.

They are taken place in many different settings across the valley or even cities outside the valley if they can provided housing for the student.

That's actually something that I really like about the program, I just don't like the idea of going into clinicals unprepared.
