acooper Posted January 30, 2012 Hi all, I'm hoping to get a little help from some people who've been accepted into PA school. I graduated about a year and a half ago from U of Mich with a degree in Anthropology and had only taken a couple of science classes during my undergrad there. A few months ago I decided I wanted to return to school to take the prereqs to become a PA and I'm currently signed up for A&PI, Basic Chem, and Nutrition at the community college near my parents' house. Classes have been going great so far but I'm wondering if taking my pre-reqs post-bac at a community college will look poorly on my application. I'm not sure what everyone else's experiences have been with this. I'd truly hate to be turned down because I didn't shell out more money to take these classes at a university. Thanks for your help. greenmood Posted January 30, 2012 Vast majority of schools don't care where you took pre-reqs. I took nearly all of mine at a community college and had no problem. If you're really concerned, call the schools or check the websites.

Just Steve Posted January 30, 2012 If I say you will be screwed for using a CC will you withdraw and go to a four year program? If I say you will be fine using a CC, how will you know I am right? After all I am just a forum name. What if several people respond and our opinions are split down the middle? What I can tell you from being a PA student, my school had NO issues with all my pre reqs being from a community college. But I only attend one out of the 140 plus programs out there for PAs....some of which are taught AT community colleges. I am sure there are schools that have opposing views on this. It may behoove you to contact the schools you are considering and ask them directly.

taotaox1 Posted January 30, 2012 Had over 80 hours at CC and ALL my pre-reqs were at CC. Got interviews at 3 "top 10" schools and will be going to Duke in the fall. It didn't seem to matter. That said Steve is right, just call the schools you want to go to and ask. Personally, I say go with CC. Anything else is just stupid debt.
