dchampigny
I am a new grad (about six months into a family medicine position). I was wondering what an acceptable time to start up with a second per diem job would be without feeling totally overwhelmed? Due to not being credentialed with all of the insurances, I would say about 70% of my patients per day is acute complaints at this point (only seeing about 10 people per day due to insurance). FriarMedic
I started a per diem second job at an urgent care after about 1 year of full time emergency medicine. I started looking at 6 months but everywhere wanted 1 year experience. Looking back, I think it would have been dangerous to start any earlier as most urgent cares around here are solo gigs with phone call back up. Moderator EMEDPA Posted January 22, 2017 Moderator Share Posted January 22, 2017 I did 2 years of urgent care fast track then transferred to a community hospital run by the same company. after 2 years there I got another per diem job at another local community hospital. dchampigny
I was guessing about a year experience would be reasonable. But the loans don't stop! Maybe I will consider a non-clinical job. Thanks for the input
