dkwee Posted January 24, 2012 Just curious, would anyone be able to answer these questions? What do PAs do on a daily basis? In what areas do PAs work? What is the average day of a PA like? Why has the PA profession done well over the years? How will healthcare reform affect our profession as PAs? Thanks! :)

winterallsummer Posted January 24, 2012 1. Depends on practice. A PA who's been working for several years will do more or less what to doctor does in that specialty. A new PA for example in surgery may do first assists and see post op patients. Varies widely. 2. All areas doctors work. PAs can in fact switch specialties as well so for example 5 years in emergency medicine, 5 years in neurosurgery, 5 years in family med... 3. Again varies on the specialty. 4. A focus on getting skilled clinicians into the field in a manageable time frame. Health care needs more providers and MDs are trained slower and are way more expensive. In many cases PAs end up doing the same job as the MD but are paid less. Or they may be able to handle many responsibilities of the MD and leave the MD to focus on the highly acute or difficult cases. Many reasons. 5. More patient load but also more job opportunities.

MrsRonSwanson Posted January 26, 2012 Google them or shadow a PA and ask. I reckon that's what most of us did...
