Moderator EMEDPA Posted January 21, 2012 Moderator Share Posted January 21, 2012 I recently was working up an elderly woman for syncope/weakness and was discussing the eval plan with the rn. she asked me if I wanted her to do the rectal/hemoccult when she went back to the room to start the IV to free me up to see other pts. wow! never gotten that offer before(and yes, I took her up on it. heme neg by the way). medic25
That deserves at least a coffee! I've had nurses hemoccult for me before after the patient BM's, but not too many offer the rectal! My favorite recently was having my nurse offer to start an ultrasound-guided IV for me. The nurses at my new per-diem job came to tell me our new ivda patient had no access; I sighed and started to go get the Sonosite... Turns out my new ED trained a lot of the nurses how to place US-guided peripherals; she kindly offered to do it and I was off to see my next patient!
