Negotiating tactics http://www.physicianassistantforum.com/index.php?/topic/41261-family-med-offer-need-advice/

So this is essentially my first rodeo when it comes to negotiating a contract offer.  Reading up on it now and came across this statement.

Don’t let hiring managers and recruiters muddy the waters by negotiating your salary package and benefits package at the same time.

Don’t let them mix and match job offer items.

Instead, ask them to “set aside” the benefits package until you come to an agreement on the salary package.

Once you’ve secured your salary, you can start negotiating for a better benefits package."\

Based on your experience, is this a good way to go about things.  I'm trying to negotiate this contract (http://www.physicianassistantforum.com/index.php?/topic/41261-family-med-offer-need-advice/), and i don't know if i should ask for everything at once or separately, like the author of the article suggests.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

In my experience, the benefits package was essentially set - especially if the practice has multiple "physician extenders."

In all of the jobs that were offered to me, the only areas for negotiation were base salary, bonus structure (maybe), PTO - which includes CME, vacation, personal time, CME money, and tail coverage (if needed).  Everything else was basically set.

Personally, I preferred negotiating both together, because I equate increased PTO to income.  I may be willing to decrease my salary by $5k if they are willing to give me an extra week of PTO, or vice versa.

I am currently studying for the GRE and have about 250 internship hours done at an ENT clinic with an audiologist. I'm not sure in what I am doing and need any guidance or suggestion in what to do.

Hello everyone!  I am in my 2nd semester of PA school and am in search of preceptors in my area. I live in Greenville, SC and currently commute to Hendersonville, NC for class which is about 40 minutes each day. Because of this, I am really hoping to find preceptors closer to home.
I am currently in search of any preceptors in Greenville, Travelers Rest, Greer, Mauldin, Easley, Powdersville, Taylors, and really anywhere in the north west South Carolina area!
If you or anyone you know is interested in taking on a PA student who is super eager to learn and be in the upstate area, please let me know!
      Thank you so much.
