Congratulations on your interview. When did you apply?

I applied very late! I sent in my CASPA application January 17 and got the email the same day saying I was under review. Two days later I got the email saying I passed their initial screening, and then February 8th I was invited to interview march 13!

That is awesome!! Congratulations!! I got the same two emails, now I'm just waiting and hoping I get an interview offer. I know that they are really focused on getting local candidates and vets into their program. As I am neither, we shall see....

Congrats everyone on your interview invite! Don't be too stressed about it. It was such a fun day that I didn't even notice how fast time passed by. Before we knew it we were done with the whole process.

What I can tell you is that there was no surprises. It will be what you expect from an interview, but the faculty are great and very nice. During your interview they may not be showing any emotion and have a blank face, but that DOESN'T mean they don't like you. Just be honest with them and with yourself. Know why you want to be a PA and don't give them an answer just to make them like you. Speak from your heart. When I interviewed I felt I wasn't giving them good answers but they were my answers and truly came from my heart and my experiences. I talked about people or events that affected me the most and made me go for PA. Talk about YOUR inspirations. I know you've heard it before but honestly just be yourself and be a team player. You're gonna shine.

Good luck everyone :)

There's always hope! I'm coming from 4,000 miles away so I am far from local! Last year I applied at the end of February and was rejected the next week

how long did you guys hear back after they emailed about the initial screening?

I submitted my application on 11/18 and I got an email regarding the initial screening on 11/23. It took a while since then.

Yes, every interview has a writing portion. Differs per program though. Some have you do research and type, others you may write about something specific (usually lots of topics), or  most of the time  there will be questions about yourself that you write about. It's not difficult, definitely don't stress this portion of the interview. As long as you are capable of formulating thought and writing complete sentences, which I hope you are, you will be fine.

I've received an interview March 15th. Does anyone know if the class is filled yet? Are these interviews now for Waitlist spots?

What exactly does the interview process entail/how is the interview set up?

UOP's interview is an all day thing (8-5). Most other programs are a half to full day as well. There is typically an introduction, usually the dean or director of the program will give you some info on the program, you get to ask a couple of questions here at the end. There is typically some sort of Campus Tour, current students will show you around, you definitely get to ask questions here. Breakfast and/or lunch is usually included, I've had some interviews where staff or students join you for this, and another where it's just the interviewees! This is low stress, just eat and be professional and be your normal social self!

Then there may be a writing portion. See my post above, again, no stress! You won't be given some crazy topic, you usually write about yourself.

Panel and Group interviews. Panel varies... could be 1 on 1 you and the interviewer, or sometimes there is 2 of them and 1 of you. Usually 15-20 minutes, they ask about 5 questions (this definitely varies). Know why you want to be a PA and why you like their program, if you can do that, you're golden. They just want to get to know you.

Group interviews: In my experience, these are usually more like group discussions with other interviewees. I've been on camera before, but usually it's just a member of the faculty observing the group's interactions while discussing a topic. Often, an ethical situation. Not sure there is a right or wrong, they just want to see you be a team-player!

Good luck everyone, hope to meet some of you soon. (I'm interviewing March 15, message me if you are too!)

Thank you so much for these details. Have you had an interview at UOP before?

I've had a couple interviews that required a writing portion. One school both schools asked some ethical questions such as "What would you do if if your patient asked you not to tell his condition to his family?"

I haven't. Based on the email and some people I've talked to that have interviewed, it'll follow the same format as above. The biggest advice I've gotten is know yourself and then be yourself. Know your background, your experience, and your stories... Then just practice on condensing them into a few minutes, practice this out loud so you know what you sound like, so you can pull these stories out when you need some examples. Other than that, be yourself. The interviewers are good at a Poker face, but be yourself and the rest is out of our hands!

Considering applying tomorrow last minute (2/28). Is it even worth it at this point? Or have most interviews been sent out?

Just got the placed in the decision pool email from the interview on Tuesday.

Sorry could you clarify what that means? Were you placed back in the pool for a decision later in May?

I was in the interview on Tuesday too. I haven't heard anything yet. I would like to be still in the race.

There are 3 options for what you are gonna hear right after the interview. 1. you are still in the pool for consideration (the decision is hold until all the interview are done which is May or June) 2. Early acceptance (limited spots) 3. Rejection

Exactly. I applied after the early acceptance deadline so that wasn't eligible for me. Now the waiting game until May begins.

Got an email yesterday saying I qualify for an interview but all available interview spots are filled, so I'm waitlisted for an interview spot at this point.

Good Luck guys!

I applied late (2/28) and received an email that I passed initial review on 3/1 and then a couple hours later another email stating I was invited for an interview on 5/2. I also thought this was late, hoping the spots are not all filled!

Does anyone know if they have a seat deposit? I'm interviewing soon and don't remember seeing anything on the website regarding how much a seat deposit was...

Hey everyone, I just declined my interview scheduled next week, March 15th. This is an excellent program, but I have accepted a seat in another program already.

Hope this gives someone an earlier interview! Good luck.

Yeah the seat deposit is $1000 which will be applied toward your first semesters tuition.

I might have gotten my seat thanks to you, got invited for the March 15th interview last week Thursday.  I was put on the holding list for an interview after applying just before the deadline.  I'll be driving from the Bay Area early in the morning, looking forward to meeting some of you there.

Were you in the group today? Check your email. I think most people from today's interview received email decision from the faculty several minutes ago. If you didn't receive yours, just wait 'till next week. Best of luck.

I got the same email, but I took it to mean I'm not in consideration at all for their program. Is there still a chance?

it just means you didn't get early acceptance I think, they said early acceptance or regular admission for consideration in may/june

There still seems to be confusion over the early acceptance. Unless you applied before the early acceptance deadline you aren't up for that consideration, which at this point is everyone. Don't feel bad if you get the "you're back in the pool" email.

Hey all, I received early acceptance to another program because of my interview score, not because of my application. So this isn't necissarily true for all programs. If you are confused as to whether or not you received denial or waitlist, just email and ask. They will specify if you are back in the waiting pool or not.

My question would be: Do they hand out any rejections after the interview or is everyone placed back into the application pool?

They do advise of rejections within 1-7 days of your interview. I regretfully know this from experience. Good luck to you!

My question would be: Do they hand out any rejections after the interview or is everyone placed back into the application pool?

The way I understand the process, here is how it works:

If you submitted your CASPA application by January 1st, you are eligible to be offered one of the seats allocated for early acceptance. So if you just interviewed in March, check your CASPA submission date because if you are eligible for early acceptance your notification will come as early as 2 weeks after the interview.  If you submitted after January 1st, you are considered to be in the "general applicant pool"

Generally speaking, within 2-weeks after your interview you'll get 1 of 3 answers:

a) Acceptance call / email / letter in the mail

b) Email saying, "While the committee did not select you for early acceptance to the program, your application is competitive and will be retained in the pool of qualified interviewed applicants."  This means your application is WAITLISTED.

c) Email saying, "Unfortunately, the admissions committee regrets to inform you that at this time we are unable to offer you admission to the Physician Assistant Program." This means your application is REJECTED.

There are 45 spots for 200 applicants. 120 out of those 200 students have been interviewed already so we are waiting for the AdCom to finish interviewing those last 80 people. That should be completed sometime in May (school's target time is April). At that time, the final notifications will be sent out to everybody on the waitlist.  Until then, the waiting game begins...

Best of luck to everybody!
