ffemt2466
I live in Illinois and have been a Paramedic for just under 2 years with 5 years EMT experience prior. I want to know A. what schools around here have programs (southern part of state) and B. How many years is this program either Associates or BA? Sorry if this is a newbie question but looking into different career options and I am 31, thanks!!
dkwee
Typical bachelors to masters is 2 years, or around a 24+ month program.
Lemon Bars
Here is a link to the PA program list. http://www.arc-pa.org/acc_programs/ Most PA programs require a bachelor's degree to enter the program and between two to two and a half years of study (ending at a master's degree). There are also pre-requisite courses like anatomy, etc. that you can take while getting your bachelor's degree. If you already have a bachelor's degree but you haven't taken anatomy, etc. you will have to go back and take those before applying. It can be a long road depending on where you start from. You've got the health care experience part. Best of luck to you.
ffemt2466
Ok, I am close to an associates in Paramedic Science right now. I was curious if there was an Associates program for this at all? Not to take shortcuts but I am not working steadily and was hoping for a quicker route to a job, thanks! Moderator LT_Oneal_PAC Posted January 17, 2012 Moderator Share Posted January 17, 2012 They have certificates out there, but they require lots of experience, the same prerequisites, and are just as long. It saves you time on getting a bachelor degree basically.
Just Steve
If you are stuck on not leaving your state, I got nothing for you. If you want to attend a top ten program that doesn't require a bachelors, and is located in the brilliant Pacific Northwest, check out http://www.washington.edu/medicine/som/depts/medex/ . I, with many other non degreed paramedics are loving it.
