T.Chase
Does anyone have any information about the University of Florida's online graduate certificate in Medical Physiology? They offer various of these online certificates, but this one seems to be a great refresher/precursor to a lot of topics that will be encountered in PA school so I am highly considering it. http://distance.physiology.med.ufl.edu/programs/graduate-certificate-medical-physiology/ Fundamentals of Medical Physiology (1 cr) Medical Renal Physiology (2 cr) Medical Respiratory Physiology (3 cr) Medical Endocrine Physiology (3 cr) Medical Cardiovascular and Muscle Physiology (3 cr) Medical Gastrointestinal Physiology (2 cr) Hoping to hear some feedback from previous students! dream2pa
Following . I was considering it as well but the cost had me think twice plus all the exams are proctored.
modernlily16
I'm also interested in what anyone has to say regrading this!
T.Chase
Following . I was considering it as well but the cost had me think twice plus all the exams are proctored. I don't mind proctored exams since that's how exams are taken in-person and nearly all online graduate certificates have some sort of proctoring system. I am already enrolled for the Fall semester and I believe you can still sign up for non-certificate status. If anyone is interested in partaking send me a PM! Would be thrilled to have a fellow study partner.
SarahATC2PA
I may be interested in this...does anyone know offhand what is the cost? Nevermind...found it! Going to have to look at finances! I have taken two courses this year through UF online and distance programs. The proctoring for those was done online through ProctorU. They watch you through your webcam...sounds creepy, but it really isn't that bad. Most of the time I didn't know they were there, and I could take the exams from the comfort of my living room! SarahATC2PA
It looks like I've missed the application deadline to start in Fall semester :(
T.Chase
It looks like I've missed the application deadline to start in Fall semester :( You can still apply as non-degree status for the Fall semester and eventually switch in the Spring. You have until Aug 15th http://distance.physiology.med.ufl.edu/student-resources/critical-dates/
SarahATC2PA
How quickly are you looking to complete the certificate? Will you be going for the cardiovascular/renal specialization? Lastly, have you applied to any programs this year?
T.Chase
How quickly are you looking to complete the certificate? Will you be going for the cardiovascular/renal specialization? Lastly, have you applied to any programs this year? I anticipate to finish in two semester, or at worst by Summer of next year. It's only 14 credits. I had initially signed up for the Cardio/Renal track, but I didn't want to miss out on some of the other classes. This is the only certificate I have applied to. It's pricey, but for what it's worth it seems well structured and as a FL resident UF is my top school :)
SarahATC2PA
T. Chase, How is this going so far for you? I missed the deadline for the fall, but am filling out app now to start in spring. Also, did you have to do any financing, and if so who did you go through. My concern here is cost. With all the application fees for schools and then this on top of everything, it's really getting me down! : /
gopherpig
Does anyone know of any other similar programs? So you guys are basically using this as a GPA booster and science refresher in preparation for applications?
SarahATC2PA
I don't know of any other similar programs. I have taken courses online through UF previously so it makes sense for me to apply here. Personally, I have so many credit hours at this point that my GPA isn't budging much. I am hoping to use this as a science refresher and I am hoping to show adcoms that I can still handle graduate school level sciences. I am a nontraditional applicant that already has an M.S. in another health related field, but in my undergraduate basics I didn't do so stellar, which has really hurt my cGPA and sGPA despite having all A's and one B+ since finishing undergrad. This is a very applicable certificate program that I think will also help me in school, if I ever do get an acceptance.
