Med Term Class for PA School

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I recently graduated from the University of Rhode Island this past May and have started filling out my CASPA application for PA school. I noticed some of the schools I was applying to required a Medial Terminology course, so I signed up through the Des Moines University course and passed it. They sent me a certificate and I received two credits for the class. I'm unsure if I should put this in my transcript entry or certifications. I want the PA schools to see that I took the Med Term class through the prerequisites, but I did not receive a transcript for the course. Has anyone else had trouble with this?? Where should I enter my Med Term course so the schools can see I took it and received two credit hours for the course.

Thanks!!

Just wondering where to input this in my application.

What kind of credits are these?  If you don't get a transcript, are they really education credits?  Or is it more like continuing education/CE credits?  Did you get a grade?

Do programs accept certificate courses for med term?  If you didn't receive university credit you might not be able to count them as '2 credits' the way you would when you get a transcript.

They are two credit hours. I have talked to other people and they have used this course too, I'm just unsure where to put the credits so schools see that I took the Medical Terminology course. It counts as the Med Term prerequisite but I'm unsure if the schools will see it if it's under certifications.

Usually you have to request transcripts from a school. Is there any way you can request a transcript from them? If you took a course there you should have some sort of student ID number/account and you should be able to have them mailing you a transcript from their school and the only course on it would be the Medical Terminology one. In that case you would have a transcript from your undergrad school and a transcript from this school.

I didn't sign up as a student for the school I just signed up for the course it was all online. I only got a certification for completing the course. I called and had them send the certification to CASPA. The school's I'm applying to that want Med Term say they want just two credit hours, which I received. I'm just unsure where to put this in my application so they see I have taken it as a prerequisite.

As it wasn't a credit class, you need to contact the programs where you plan to apply and ask them.  Understand also that they may not accept it if they require it to be a 'for credit' class.

Good luck.

Done.  As a reminder, forum members should generally start threads based on who they are, rather than who they want to read their posts.  Practicing PAs with an interest in pre-PA issues will read and respond to appropriate questions in the pre-PA forum.
