R89432 Posted July 16, 2016 I have turned in my roll over application for this upcoming year. I feel this year will be it. Time to start studying ????????
murphy2475 Posted July 28, 2016 Turning in my application in late August! Super excited to meet everyone whose applying! :)
crob1993 Posted August 19, 2016 Hello everybody! I am currently getting ready to apply to the Pa program. Currently in the process of shadowing Pa's before I finally send my application in. Just to for a baseline, here are some of my application credentials: I have an OK gpa of a 3.0 (Nothing crazy I know, but still hopeful!) I am in my 4th semester of Paramedic school, I graduate 2 weeks after the deadline for application to the Pa program. I'm a nationally registered EMT (hopefully that helps) I graduated this summer from Miami-dade with Pre-PA AA. I just recently turned 23 so lets give this Pa thing a shot! Good luck to everyone applying, wishing the best for you all.
Silvy Posted September 13, 2016 I also turned in my roll over form. Crossing my fingers this will be the year!! [emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rgmerck Posted October 18, 2016 I too am turning in my paperwork now. I know, a little later than I should but this is my first time and I just found out about the school. A little about me, I just turned 40, I have a crummy GPA of 2.9 with the last 56 credit hours taken recently of a 4.0. I have been a practicing Paramedic for over 11 years now with over 15 years in EMS total. I hope that my recent drive of the 4.0 classes and the experience will help me get in somewhere!
Twinkle9937 Posted October 24, 2016 Hi everyone! I also turned in my roll over application form. This time around I have to obtain a high score on the entrance exam and essay. This has to be my year.
eyeney Posted November 11, 2016 Hi everyone ! what are you all using to study for the entrance exam ?
Angie010 Posted November 13, 2016 Hello eyeney, I'm using the recommended material found on their website: http://www.mdc.edu/physicianassistantas/admission.aspx Suggested Resources: Tortora, GJ Microbiology: An Introduction (11th edition) Haroun, L, Mitchell, D Introduction to HealthCare (3rd edition) – Chapter5 – Medical Math Allan, David Medical Language for Modern Health Care Paperback - 3rd edition -ISBN-13: 978-0073513720 Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology by Frederic H. Petunia Posted November 30, 2016 Good luck everyone. I just withdrew my application for this cycle. I am very honored to be accepted to my first choice program. Good Luck to all - this is a very exciting time! Enjoy the journey :)
Lcollada Posted December 28, 2016 Hey guys, My name is Lily, I'm 29 years old, just finished my AA with a 3.7 GPA and now just patiently waiting to hopefully hear back for the entrance exam in Feb. I've been a surgical tech for 11 years and counting with 3 amazing plastic and reconstructive surgeons that almost cry to hear that I might have to leave to go to school jaja. I feel confident and completely ready to work hard and get in this program. When I applied this year CHM 1045+1046 were not required and now they are. I have to go in person to talk to a counselor and see about that. This would be the only thing prohibiting me from getting, and the entrance exam of course. If anyone is interested in a study sesh please let me know. I work a full time job but now will be taking more time off to focus on the entrance exam. Hopefully this time will suffice! Best of luck to everyone but please let me know about gathering to study! Thank you in advice. -Lily
DoctorMedicalSciencePAC Posted January 1, 2017 The new MDC Physician Assistant webpage says the following: About the Associate of Science The Associate of Science degree in Physician Assistant (PA) has been discontinued. Miami Dade College has instituted a new degree track to replace the previous pathway. The NEW degree track will now be the attainment of an AS degree in Health Services Management (60 credits) which will allow students to enroll in a PA option to pursue the Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Health Sciences with an Option in Physician Assistant Studies. Remember that the accrediting body which accredits all PA programs (the ARC-PA) has initiated an initiative to deny accreditation to any school who does not confer a Masters Degree to their graduating PA students beyond the year 2020. This means that all PA programs who do not currently confer Master's (such as MDC) must affiliate with a school who can confer a graduate degree (St. Francis is the current affiliation with MDC). Just remember that to keep your horizons broad you should take prerequisites that will allow you to apply to as many schools as possible, so do your research!! And never give up!! Look at Petunia, she never gave up and got accepted to Duke, where Dr. Stead trained the first PA's!!! Amazing tenacity! :) MDC's "Associate in Science in Physician Assistant" has been "the last of the Mohicans" for a long time, and, according to the website, is now discontinued. It is our understanding that in order to comply with the ARC-PA initiative, MDC PA Program has to transition from an Associate degree into a Bachelors degree, so that their students graduating beyond 2020 are conferred a Masters at the time of graduation. Class of 2019 (those who get accepted this year) are the last class that MDC will allow to enter into the PA Program without a Bachelors. Class of 2020 (those who begin in Spring 2018) will only be allowed entry if they already have a Bachelors and all required prerequisites. It is exciting to see the profession evolve to become on par with Nurse Practitioners by setting the standard terminal degree to a Masters degree, and these changes are the baby steps that MDC is taking to help bring the ARC-PA's initiative into fruition. Good luck to everyone applying for entry this year. Have lofty goals! May the new year be full of health, happiness, prosperity, and growth to you all! Never stop studying!
prepahope Posted January 3, 2017 Thank you MMSPAC. I did read the same and got worried. The website looks so different and i wonder if there would be any changes to the entrance exam? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
R89432 Posted January 8, 2017 Author I hope there isn't a change to the test for this year. I have been studying what they provided to us when we turned in our application. I'm so nervous waiting to get the invitation for the exam. They said end of january, but I want to know my exam date.
botama90 Posted January 9, 2017 Quick question are they still selecting applicants to take the entrance exam or is everyone qualified to take it this year. Ms. Hernan was telling me next year everyone has to take it.
PrePAJay Posted January 16, 2017 lol @ Petunia. See you at the National Challenge Bowl, which we are back to back champs and all going fora 3peat (: . Good luck to everyone applying this year. We are all excited to meet you guys in the summer!
PrePAJay Posted January 19, 2017 Prospective students, Miami Dade Medical campus will be having their Open House next week on Thursday January 26th from 9 AM -12 PM. A few of us will be available for a chat on campus as we will be doing some fundraising as well! Just letting you all know incase you are interested in meeting some of us! Good luck again (:
Pinecrest Posted January 24, 2017 Thank you Jay for that info, I appreciate that. I am a roll-over applicant from last year. I assume the PA team will be sending out exam invites this week or next week. So keep studying everyone. And a huge good luck!
murphy2475 Posted January 26, 2017 Hi guys! Has anyone else been added to the PA Program Admissions organization on the blackboard for MDC? I just looked at my blackboard account and I was added to that. Good luck everyone Murphy
R89432 Posted January 27, 2017 Author I have it on my blackboard as well but still no exam date yet. I'm resisting the urge to call them, it's soooo close to the exam date.
NicoleB0724 Posted January 27, 2017 I saw that on my blackboard as well, I'm anxious to know when they'll email us a date. Good luck everyone !
FPA-S Posted January 28, 2017 Hi everyone, Don't worry the emails will come soon. We had a lot going on in the beginning of the semester so there may have been a little backup. Keep studying and good luck to everyone :)
R89432 Posted January 30, 2017 Author Just spoke to someone from health sciences department and they said they have not begun to email anyone yet. I'm just concerned with when they schedule it and my work schedule, asking for a day off 2 weeks ahead of time is cutting it close at my job and may not be possible. I hope they are flexible.
