GetMeOuttaThisMess Posted July 15, 2016 Deleted. Guess no one orders them (rightfully so in most cases).
PAL4418 Posted August 3, 2016 The DO that I work with orders them all of the time on his patients with dyslipidemia. Insurance doesn't pay for them but you can get a CT calcium score for $100.
SCPA Posted August 8, 2016 I've never ordered one, but I can see where it could have a role. As mentioned above, it's less than 100 bucks.
UGoLong Posted August 8, 2016 I've ordered them on rare occasions. An example is a 50-year-old man with no cardiac complaints and who was adopted. Not knowing anything about his cardiac history, a calcium score is a way to get an estimate of where he is in terms of risk.
julia_dodo Posted August 9, 2016 I order it routinely to evaluate their CAD risk. Personally, because of my reservation with statin medication, I also use the result to decide how aggressive to treat their dyslipidemia. I also found that it's a great tool to help getting LSM message acrossed to pt. lots of people think that just because they are on some medication they don't need to diet and exercise. When you tell them about the plaques in their arteries, their reactions change
