2012 application cycle

Hey, those of us who are applying to MXC program this application cycle (for class of 2014), have you heard back from the program? Is there a supplemental application? From the previous years' posts, interviews are usually around end of March. Has anyone gotten invited for an interview yet?

Haven't heard anything yet. If it's like last year, then they should be sending out interview invites right about now.

Haven't heard anything. Does class start in June typically? Please let us know if anyone got invite for interviews, so we can congradulate you & know where we are at. Waiting is painful

Have not heard anything yet! I work across the street and just trying to be patient.........hopefully they did not lose accreditation.

Maybe they lost their accreditation after all. I haven't been able to find any info on MXC passing their review last September and I find it very strange that they haven't updated the applicants on anything.

It is worrisome, though according to their website, their review isn't until Sept 2013 and they are still on probation:

[/h] CHANGE IN ACCREDITATION STATUS

 

At its March 8, 2012 meeting, the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant ("ARC-PA" or "Commission") reviewed all application documents submitted by the Malcolm X College Physician Assistant Program for continuing accreditation. The Commission voted to continue the Malcolm X College Physician Assistant Program on probationary accreditation until its next comprehensive review in September 2013.

 

Probation is a temporary status of accreditation conferred when a program does not meet accreditation standards and when the capability of the program to provide an acceptable educational experience for its students is threatened. If the Malcolm X College Physician Assistant Program does not demonstrate substantial compliance with accreditation standards at the time of its next comprehensive review in June 2013, the Commission will withdraw accreditation from the Malcolm X College Physician Assistant Program. There will be no further period of probation. It is possible that the loss of accreditation by the Program may impact the ability of students enrolled in the Program at the time of withdrawal to practice as physicians assistants in some states.

 

Specific questions regarding the Program and its plans should be directed to the Program Director and/or the appropriate institutional official(s).

The advice that I got from the adviser in my school (Roosevelt University) - STAY AWAY... The accreditation is under question... Do you really want to put all the time and effort and then be unable to practice or even finish? I would not!
