winterallsummer 327
Curious if anyone has done this. For example your main job is IM but you take a PRN in palliative or endocrinology. Obviously FM, EM and UC lend easily to these. Anyone else work PRN in a specialty outside your primary field?
DogLovingPA 118
Not quite the scenario you are asking about but I work full time in UC and one day a week/prn in pulmonary (outpatient only). I've been doing that for almost 2 years now. But as you pointed out, easier and fairly common to have two "specialties" when one of them is FP/ER/UC.
JFloridaPA 3
My main practice is ortho spine and I pick up weekend Emergency Department shifts. I was grabbing about 2 shifts a month but they hired a few more people so I dont have any shifts on the horizon. wouldnt say that it is uncommon, just hard to balance the schedules. Also the transition to the new field can be a bit much as you have that many more EMR's and passwords. I think it definitely makes me a better all around practitioner though
