Temporary License

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am a new grad from Trevecca in Nashville, TN and am looking for work in Austin, TX. I am studying for the PANCE but am excited to start my career in the meantime. In Tennessee, a PA can practice on a temporary license until they take/pass the PANCE. Is there an option similar to that in Texas? I see that a temporary license is $107 but I am having a hard time finding information on actually applying for a temporary license. Can I apply for that before the PANCE? Will employers find that attractive?

Thanks!

PS: Give me a job!

If our plan is to work in Texas I will recommend you that you start the license process asap. I graduated from Texas Tech in August of 2011, took PANCE the first week of September and just receive an e-mail yesterday that will take at least 30 more days to have a temporary license. In Texas you can not practice with out a license. To get the temporary license you have to apply for a full licence pay the full license and then apply for the temporary license. If you need information go to Texas Medical Board website and all the information is there. Good luck

I'm not sure about TX but in MI you do not need to have taken the PANCE to get your temp license. (However, if you take the PANCE and fail the temp lic is revoked). Our prof was....oh don't waste your money if you plan on taking the PANCE right away. (Temp Lic was only $30 more). I looked at it this was 30 isn't even 1 hr of pay so if a temp lic allowed me to start work faster it was a good investment. My perm lic was approved 3 days after my temp lic and before my start date so i did not need it. But there were those in my class that did not chalk up the xtra 30 and they were still trying to get their perm lic so they could work a month after i had been working. hmmmm 30 dollars vs a months pay mmmm

Anyway that is my 2 cents
