jmj11
Group Health Cooperative, the largest insurer in my region, decided to boycott my practice because it is PA-owned. I've been fighting this for three months. Tomorrow is my last ave., a face to face meeting with the top executives. I'm doing this mostly for the 700 GH patients I've been following over the past 8 years, but also to stand opposed to their concept of PA-Owned = poor care. So, tomorrow I meet with them a 1 PM. I will report back but keep your fingers crossed that I can talk some sense into them.

maryfran123
all the best!!! Too bad you couldn't have your pts give testimonials to how much you have helped them. hoping that the "suits" see the light and do the right thing!!!!!
jmj11
Interesting meeting and I'm back home on my quiet little island from the Emerald City. We met on the fourth floor conference room at the Group Health Headquarters. It was a shinny room with a big table, walls of etched glass. On one side were three Group Health Executives and on the other side, myself, my SP ad my office manager (and patient advocate). The GH team were selected by the fact that they knew nothing of us (to prevent a bias from the rejection team). We presented our case well. I would give us a A-. They asked a few questions. The will next go back and review the original team's decision to boycottus. They will reconsider us and give us an answer in 10 days. Reading between the lines of their questions, clearly their doubts were about my abilities, because I'm a PA, to deliver the level of care that they would call me a specialist. My SP is very confident they will rule in our favor. I have more guarded optimism and give it a 50:50 chance. Keep you fingers crossed as this will be not just a victory for our clinic, but another small victory for PAs.

Moderator EMEDPA Posted September 10, 2011 Moderator Share Posted September 10, 2011 Hopefully they understand the care by you is the same regardless of who pays the rent on the building...silly that they would pay if you were an employee but not the boss... Contrarian
Yes... Also silly that they do not hesitate to pay when neither the Physician, nor the PA is the boss and are both "employees." Think positive... and we will see if the all to un-"common sense" prevails.
