should be concerned with right now? I've learned a lot by perusing this forum over the last few days. Just wanting to know what you feel are the profession's most pressing items at this point; what needs to get done to strengthen the profession? I'm sure the name change (which I agree with) will be in the TOP 3

It gives bragging rights, but it also gives credence to the one sharing the thought.

Lots of folks here would like to know who they are responding to...

What are your credentials..??? (Pre-PA, PA Student, PA, PA-C, RN, Pre-NP, NP, what????)

Why does these things matter to you..???

Sorry, fair enough. RN to NP (poor choice of program; should've done more research). Currently newly minted PA. Right now still working in some research arenas (long story with recent surgeries and insurance yadda, yadda), but plan on getting the first PA gig soon.

in no particular order

1. name change to better reflect I am no one's 'assistant' but instead a medical provider

2. loss of PA's to speciality medicine instead of Primary Care (primary care pay stinks)

3. income change to more productivty based pay for what we generate

4. independent practice

5. not getting left out of all the health care reform with NP's doing far better advancing their profession politically

6. not loosing ground to aggressive medical boards and other political action groups - i.e. Rad supertechs

7. changing eduational model to MS or DPA

8. getting everyone in the health care arena to respect us for what we do - no we are not an MA and no we are not going to become a doctor some day

1. Physician Associate name change

2. Making sure that in EVERY STATE where NP practice rights exceed PAs, legislation is pushed to make these providers equal. I don't want PAs>NPs and more than I want NPs>PAs in terms of scope/freedom. Independence is a separate issue, but equal rights in terms of prescribing/authorizing services, etc
