pahelper
you can shadow an MD but a PA is better so you can understand the work of a PA. Most schools want you to shadow a PA .......

Guest TerryF
I would rather shadow a PA. You get experience, but you can gain from the PA's experience. TerryF

MalibuCA
Thanks so much for the replies! I've been volunteering and shadowing an MD for 2 years, do you think that mentioning that in my personal statment will be dumb since i obviously don't want to be an MD? I'm struggling so much with that :(

Texas_PA
I shadowed an MDs as well as a PA. The experience in the medical field is invaluable, regardless of who you are shadowing, in my opinion. Shadowing is by its very nature a passive task - you are generally observing and not "doing". Yes, you should definitely shadow a PA so that you know what they do on a daily basis and so that you know for sure this is the field you want to enter. But I think it helps to have any additional health care experience as well.
