NPI question

Recommended Posts

Ran into some problems while attempting to fill out for my NPI (without a job)

It asked about me and/or my organization and I listed myself as an individual (examples they gave was dentist, pharmacist) instead of organization (hospital, pharmacy). I hope that part is right.

It asked "Is the provider a sole proprietor?": I put no (new grad here, looking for job at hospital)

The part I am stuck on is "Domestic business mailing address information" and "Domestic business practice location address information".

The address is required for both parts. I was told by multiple people that I can fill this out now, even without a job. I put I am not a sole proprietor...what am I doing wrong? Would domestic business be my home address and business practice be my job address once I get one??

Answer Yes to " Is the provider a solo provider? " it is your NPI and not business NPI. When you answeres NO to above question they think you looking for NPI for a new business practice. Hope it help. Good luck!

Hey thanks, Mira.

I am still running into the same problem. Below is another item that is confusing to me:

-

Please select the radio button which most applies to you or your organization:

Type 1: An individual who renders health care services. (Example: Dentist, Chiropractor, Pharmacist)

Type 2: An organization that renders health care services. (Example: Hospital, Nursing Facility, Pharmacy)

-

1st time I filled it out I put no to sole proprietor, yes to type 1 and ran into above problem.

2nd time I filled it out I put yes to sole proprietor, and yes to type 2 and same problem as before.

Do I just use my home address for both "Domestic business mailing address information" and "Domestic business practice location address information"?

I would just save yourself the headache and wait until you get a job. For me, I got my NPI number as instantly as I hit the submit button... and it's free. So dont' sweat it, once you accept a position, you can have your NPI number a few seconds later.

Can anyone answer this? I also clicked yes and still getting the same problem. Is it okay to use home address for the business address since I'm not working yet?

At the beginning of the application- "Before you begin, make sure you have the following information. This information will be required to complete the NPI application form." One of those things is your practice address, therefore, as directed, there is no need to fill out this application until you have a job.

I did just so I could get it done with.  I simply switched it once I got my job.

A word of warning about using your home address- I did just that when I first applied for my NPI and it made my home address easily available for patients to search out....would recommend end changing it to your business address as soon as possible.
