cstal03 Posted July 14, 2011 Hey - I have been checking into HRSA and I think I have a good understanding of how it works - but the only issue is, HRSA will not discuss the amount of funding available or to what HRSA score they are funding to. Anyone with HRSA LRP currently? If so, what score was your clinic, and was there other factors that you believe helped with receiving LRP? As of now, I have been checking into a clinic with a score of 10 and wanted to know my chances. Thanks!!!
mostrike1 Posted July 14, 2011 The earlier in the application cycle the better. People of HPSAs of 3 get funded, but not toward the end of the cycle when the higher HPSAs scores help. Making sure your application is fully complete and without discrepancies helps a lot, as well as your approval of your site. If there are any errors with those, that can cause you grief. I think there is also a bit of luck in the process, it all depends on who handles your application. My coworkers app was turned in at the same time as mine, and she was approved one month before I was with no real difference in our application "completeness" . NHSC has a facebook page where you can like or join and then "join the discussion" and read through the frustrations/joyous posts. I don't know anything about the amount of funding available. Overall I love NHSC and its program. It was a frustrating experience applying and waiting, but the loan repayment was worth it to me. of note my HPSA was 16.
brantan83 Posted August 12, 2011 I have an interview at NHSC LRP site next week and had a few of the same questions. As far as applying early, when does the application cycle typically open and close? Mostrike, from the time that your application was submitted, how long did you have to wait before the big fat check came?
mostrike1 Posted August 15, 2011 It was 6 months for me to be awarded the money. They say it "should" take 8 weeks to process your application....unless they have made some improvements to their system, plan for about that length of time. I was informed I was awarded in March, but they make you wait 90 days to receive the direct deposit. I believe the next cycle opens sometime in November, but don't quote me on that, check the website.
