epd2015
Hello everyone! I know this question has been asked before but I am hoping to gain some insight into what my chances are of getting into PA school. I am a young applicant, currently a junior in college, and looking to apply in the upcoming year. My top choice is Wake Forest and I plan to apply to around 10 schools within the southeast. My stats: GPA: 3.69 GRE: 314 (retaking one time and hoping for a tad higher) PCH: Will have over 1,000 by the time of application -800 working as CNA and Med Aide in nursing home -250 interning under a Dermatologist Volunteer Hours: 200 -50 from medical mission trip to Nicaragua -150 from volunteering at a clinic for underprivileged individuals Plan on shadowing a PA for around 20 hours Other experiences: In the honors program at my college, will have completed my own undergraduate (eventually published) research, have studied abroad twice, and have held a variety of leadership positions on my campus Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated! My biggest goal is to not have to take time off between undergraduate and PA school, so please let me know if you think I am fit for any schools specifically or what I should do to enhance my application! Thanks!!
Disciple3
Weak experience but competitive GPA. Wouldn't worry about the GRE. Maybe aim for more than 20 shadowing hours. Write a good statement and get good references and should be alright!

Write a good statement and get good references and should be alright! Thank you for your advice! Would this still be seen as very weak even though I would be applying straight from college? I am nervous that I have lower chances because I am so young/haven't actually had time to work and gain further experience.
Disciple3
Picking a school that factors more weight to GPA would probably be in your interest with this case. Keep in mind an average applicant has 2-3000 hours HCE most places. I can't offer much advice to that end as I didn't apply to many programs in the south. Try Lock Haven, Arcadia, Drexel, Salus, Desales and Pitt/Penn state if you would like to come to PA!
Disco Lafleur
You can still get a whole bunch of health care hours racked up between now and when Caspa opens in April. Just get those hours.
cop to pa
From last cycle, the average matriculant nationwide had a cGPA of 3.59 and an average of 1960 hours HCE, so you may be competitive. Wake does a holistic application review looking at the whole person. I got a seat there with a 3.03 cGPA, so it can be done.
MT2PA
Thank you for your advice! Would this still be seen as very weak even though I would be applying straight from college? I am nervous that I have lower chances because I am so young/haven't actually had time to work and gain further experience. Most schools will just compare HCE among applicants and not differentiate between age. i.e they won't necessarily give you a break on not having as many HCE hours just because you are applying during undergrad. So yes, <1000 hrs is not a large amount especially when some schools require 2000.

I will have the 1000 completed by the time I apply so hopefully I still have a chance. Do you have any other recommendations for someone looking at Wake? Very jealous you got in!
