EM residency rankings

Recommended Posts

be ready to explain your interest in emergency medicine and the type of setting you want to work in when done.

if it is a group interview let other applicants talk and don't dominate the conversation. they are looking for people they can get along with as well as folks who fit the mission of the program. good luck. you made a great decision to do a residency.

Hey EMEDPA,

I'm a Cornell PA student graduating in May 2013, super excited about EM. What do you know about the NYPH Cornell EM Residency? As an alternative, if I can get a position at a very busy city hospital, would it be worth taking the pay cut for the experience?

Thanks

I assume you mean this program at NY presby:

should be a good program. I went to Haiti with some of their em md attendings in 2010.

a residency will give you much more experience than an entry level job. if I was a new grad today I would apply to multiple em residencies to be sure of getting a spot. the yr I graduated there was only 1 program...which I applied to...which lost funding and closed a few weeks before my graduation...

I know several folks who are USC/LA County EMPA residency alums and they are all very solid em pa's.

I really wish I had graduated from pa school one year earlier so I could have been in the last class.

Johns Hopkins EM Residency is an incredible 18 month experience. Some of the things learned through their residency would not be learned in just about any other setting (ie. ultrasound training, procedures/intubation), nor would you have the privilege of performing those skills. I would highly recommend it if you want to accelerate your learning, and vastly expand your skills and knowledge. You can IM/email me if you have questions...
