SRIA
Hi future classmates! I wanted to start a thread for all those accepted to QU C/O 2018. Now we can finally breath a sigh of relief and say we're one step closer to becoming PAs! Also, I'm a CT resident, and while I'm closer to the Hartford area than North Haven, I don't mind trying to answer questions for those who are relocating. Feel free to ask on this thread or PM me. Congrats and can't wait to meet you all!
G.K
Maybe someone can start a QU PA class of '18 Facebook page?
SRIA
Good idea G.K. Professor Rascati mentioned QU was going to eventually create a class page, but I can work on an informal one so some of us on the forum can start networking. I'll PM you the link once it's up.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk

PA!
I heard all students must maintain at least an 84% on tests. That is kind of stressful and hard to keep up. Other programs say C is passing. Does anyone know what the fail rate is for Quinnipiac.....?
G.K
Hi PA! So I spoke with a first year student and he mentioned they have to maintain an overall 83 average. Individual test grades can range from Cs to As. Quinnipiac does have higher standards than most schools, however, I think that's why they have such a wonderful reputation for PA education. Hope I helped :) (Btw, I'm not sure of the fail rate.)
SRIA
@PA! Also not sure of their attrition rate, but from the interview it sounded like it wasn't very high (especially for the Masters level entry). Yes, QU does hold their PA-S to high standards, but it goes along with what G.K said, folks know that QU grads are top notch clinicians. When I spoke to students on the interview day none of them seemed concerned about the required B grade in classes. Many students talked about a cohesive student body, who helped each other out if one classmate was struggling with a particular module. I understood that it was okay if you failed a couple of exams, as long as your overall course grade and cumulative GPA was a B or higher. QU also mentioned they have some sort of remediation program for failed courses (not entirely sure how that works). I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't nervous about maintaining a B in every class, but it helps to know that many students before us have done it and only a few have probably failed. You'd be surprised of what you're capable of doing if someone sets the bar high for you. :)
PAStudent33
Im a current student here...i think we are the only school that you have to maintain an 83.. in each class... overal average of a B.. its difficult when there are so many activities and currently in the fall semseter there is clas form 8-8...plus if the class average is high that is shunned upon... we have been told by otehr professors the class average is high so they want to make the exams harder.. as if the program is not hard already ! my advice read before you come here and develop a stragergy know your studying methods before coming here.. and know how to cram espeically for your fall semseter. goodluck to you all

QU17
Hi. I'm also a current student at QU. The academic standard here is that you have to pass each CLASS with a B (83%). There may be tests you do better or worse on but as long as they average out to give you a B you are fine. If you do get below a B in a class they aren't going to throw you out. I got a B- during the summer semester in one of my classes and I was asked to do remediation, which varies from person to person, but for me consisted of looking at where my weaknesses were and figuring out a plan for how to do better in the future. It was a little nerve wracking at first because I was worried they would kick me out or something but the thing is, if they have accepted you as a student they are invested in you and they don't want to fail you out. That just makes the program look bad. Is it hard to maintain the 83%? Well, kinda sorta but its also do-able. I have definitely had to kick my studying up a couple notches but I am banking on all that studying making me a better provider. Maybe it won't and I will come back and say the 83% thing was stupid, but I won't know that til I'm done, and in the meantime the program has a pretty high ranking so I'm betting that must mean something. I guess overall I would just say that you have to evaluate what is most important to you in a PA school. If having to study less and have more free time is important to you (and if it is that's ok, just be honest with yourself) then go with a program that will allow you to do that. Finding a program that is a good "fit" is really important, but what constitutes "fit" will vary for each person. Anyway, bottom line: 83% rule is tough (and frustrating sometimes) but is do-able. PA school is exhausting but do-able. Quinnipiac is a good program overall and my experience here so far has been mostly positive. Hopefully that gives you a better idea about the program and academic standards here.
QUPA
Congrats guys! wishing you all the best of luck! QU Physician Assistant program is a great program!! All programs have their ups/downs. 83 is difficult to maintain, people will, fail people and people will pass its life. It's always good to know the "good/bad" about a program. I know when I used this forum while applying to schools it helped me get both sides about a program which is important! You guys will all succeed! they chose you for a reason! So don't worry about the fail/pass.. positive thinking goes a long way Congrats again!
