New Grads/PAs in Urology

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I was hoping that some of you experienced PAs can shed some light on the current utilization of PAs in urology.  Is this a popular specialty?  How does it compare to the others in terms of pay and quality of life?  I a residency a must?  An information that you provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've covered urology in one the general surgery services I worked in.

overall impression: urologists are much nicer and happier compared to other surgeons, and the work is very interesting. I think the pay is good and most procedures elective, so the hours are decent, too.

other PAs in the gen surg service independently corroborated my impression.

I worked in urology for over five years, not a bad gig but I quit due to bad doctors. You don't need a residency I feel I learned everything on my feet, call schedule is not bad, mostly not urgent but still got plenty of calls.  I did however get tired of the geriatric population and the uncomfortable sex questions.
