bio
Anyone know if a capstone project is required by the ARC-PA? Or is it determined by the individual PA program?
Moderator EMEDPA Posted July 27, 2015 Moderator Share Posted July 27, 2015 you typically need one to get an MS, but not a BS or certificate. when my program went from BS to MS they added one class in research methodology and a required paper. UGoLong
Different schools have different requirements. I had to do a thesis and defend it, but now the students there have a capstone project.
Febrifuge
I think my advisor felt bad for me because I had a cool idea for a retrospective research study that seemed for the longest time like it would be easy for him to get approved at his hospital, but then things didn't come together and so I did a lit review on the research question instead. It was a good project. 120-page paper, or so. Maybe now that I'm in the new CME scheme I should revisit it...
SocialMedicine
I believe ARC PA wants some education in research mthodology\evidence based medicine. Ultimately the capstone or thesis is often at the demand of the University to satisfy awarding graduate level masters degree
CAAdmission
Capstone project is up to the school. Typically a grad degree requires demonstration of competence in research. Nothing to do with ARC. No one at ARC is bright enough to assess the quality of research.
