If any of you who are interviewing Jan 22 are a woman traveling alone, message me. I'd be happy to put you up in my guest bedroom for Thursday night. I know it can be expensive for a lot of you to come out here. (And, yes, I realize that this might come across a bit odd because I am a random stranger on the internet, but I promise I'm not a serial killer and you'll just have to take my word for it.)

As for the interview process... Assuming everything is exactly the same as last year, you start with a brief intro to the school, then you are split into groups of three or four to interview with three or four professors. The types of questions asked vary widely depending on who you have. I know everyone says this, but truly just relax and be yourself. They will call you on your bull (most of them) because they honestly want to know who you are. After lunch you will be put in a classroom to take a medical terminology test. This has no impact on your admission, but it wouldn't hurt to prepare a little. The test wasn't particularly hard. Then, while you're waiting, current students will be there to tell you about Knoxville and the program, and answer any questions you might have. Ask them anything you can think of. They will give honest answers, and no one is going to tattle on you to the professors. You get called in one at a time to meet again with the same group who interviewed you, at which point they will tell you of you are in, waitlisted, or denied. Again, do not panic if you are waitlisted. Do what they tell you to improve your application and update the admissions office. They keep admitting people up to the day of orientation if other people drop out.

Thanks for all of the information! Any chance you would know how many applications they have received so far?

You're amazing for posting this!! <3 is the medical terminology test what they mean by "writing sample" or is there a small essay prompt as well?? Also can you divulge if it's a open or closed interview (interviewers know your statistics?) and if I didn't already drag my sister along with me I'd take you up on the offer for the bed room but you're truly an angel!

I assume tgats the writing sample, unless something got added.

They definitely had all my stats and info with them. That's why they're so big on getting you to open up and speak honestly. A number of my friends were stopped in the middle of answers and told, "We know that already. Tell us something that isn't on the paper." (Don't be intimidated, though. They're all really nice.)

I guess I should let y'all know one of your fellow interviewees has already claimed the room.

The medical term test is not the writing sample. If I remember correctly, you were given 3 essays questions and had to answer 2 of the 3. Overall great experience and the group interview actually helped put me at ease, not make me more nervous. I was accepted but you do not know who else was accepted, declined, or wait listed because once you are told your fate, they escort you out of the building.

The writing sample is different from the med term quiz. They give you 3 prompts and toy pick two to write about. Best advice I can give us to get Andrew Rodican's "How to Ace the PA School Interview". A lot of interview questions and writing prompts come from there. The Dean worked with Rodi can a while back and so they're very familiar with his two books and use them for interviewing.

I'm also a member of the new class, Class of 2017. Good luck to all!!!

Hello, all!

Thank you to those of you who canceled interviews and opened up spots!

My application was verified on 11/30 and I received a last-minute invite today for 1/22.

Feeling very excited and looking forward to meeting those of you who will be there!

If I have yet to hear for an interview should I assume I won't be getting one?

No, they are definitely still in the process of picking /offering interview spots! Due to someone dropping a spot, I was offered one the week of the interview and got accepted! They have several more rounds to do. I know it is hard to wait, just keep being patient!

You have 10 business days from the time they send you your acceptance letter to decide AND pay your deposit. The deposit is higher than many programs ($1500 last year when I paid mine). It helps keep the turnover rate down (accepting then turning down their spot).
