2015-2016 University of Utah Application Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, Colorado applicant here. First time applying, I'm curious what other schools people have applied to. I'm a little late to the party and all the other schools I like require GRE which I haven't taken, so I'm an all eggs in one basket candidate this year. Finders crossed

Hey everyone, I also applied to UPAP! Good luck to everyone!!!! Also, @milesHenson1, it's my first time applying as well, and haven't taken the GRE either.  I have a few schools in California (where I live), and also Pacific in OR.

AB0813,

My stats are decent, around 3.7 cumulative GPA, science is around 3.4. I have over 5,000 HCE hours, 150hrs shadowing and 500 volunteer hours. I have two bachelor degrees, graphic design and general education.

I'm hopeful of getting and interview but will see what happens. What are your stats?

@milesHenson1, your stats are competitive. Mine are different. cum GPA around 3.4, science 3.8ish, 2600+ HCE, ~100 shadowing and ~300 volunteer. Undergrad in sociology. I've studied/lived overseas and am bilingual, so hoping that helps! This admissions process is so varied and uncertain, but all we can do is stay positive and wish everyone the best!

Oh give me a break. First off, in the real world you have time to prepare written responses in graduate level or any other level. Secondly, there is no honor code to sharing or not sharing the essays the reason they want to time you is so that you don't have any time to prepare or edit. They want to know you visceral reaction to the topics much like an interviewer wants to see your response in an interview. Its standard stuff. For those uber competitive people out there....dont worry....your HCE and GPA is mostly what is looked at NOT what you say in a small blurb of your life...thats just to determine if they can stand to be around you for 2 years.

Has anyone heard anything in the way of an email about receiving applications after submitting their CASPA applications to UPAP? Just curious as I have not heard anything about receiving the application.

Ugh. I personally love essay questions and I messed up on these. The timed format plus word count really got to me. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but definitely not putting my best foot forward.

I wish you all the best! Feels like just yesterday I was going through this process. Now I'm in my second year just starting clinical rotations here at UPAP. It's a great program!

I found that info on their website under important dates...says early to mid October they will extend interviews. They have two sessions of interviews. One at the end of October and one in early November. I know everyone is excited and anxious to hear from them!! ☺

Thanks Shelbell03.  Would be nice if all schools were on the same schedule but I know that isn't a realistic expectations.

Marsle85 - I know how you feel. I also made a similar mistake on the supplemental and some other really stupid mistakes on the application. I'm really hoping it doesn't ruin my chances!

Congrats to everyone who received an interview! I'm a current first year. We look forward to meeting you guys. To those who got rejected, don't lose hope! We have several in our class who have applied more than once. Keep truckin and good luck on any other interviews you may have!

      Hi All,
I am currently a PA who is in a fellowship for epidemiology which is about to end and I am trying to move back closer to Nevada where my family lives (we have a baby boy, now, and really want him to have grandparents around). I was wondering if anyone who lives in Las Vegas/Reno or SLC can share their thoughts on the job market, practice environment, and salaries in NV vs. UT?
I have a strong background in public health and epidemiology/research, but I am thinking I might switch back to medicine for a while for the pay (my parents don't have enough money saved for retirement) and to keep my clinical skills fresh. I am interested in emergency medicine or any positions that might be well suited for someone with 2 years of Emed experience.  Thanks for your consideration!

Hi All! Wanted to start a thread for those of us interviewing on the 28th. I'll be flying in from Oregon on Sunday and would love to meet up if anyone local has any ideas? So excited to meet you all!

      Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences at the UPAP program? I was accepted to the program, and I am torn on where to go, as the other program I was accepted to is also a good one. Pros? Cons? Wishes? Things you love, things you don't love so much? Anything helps :)
       Happy holidays!

Hello all!  I figured I'd fire up a thread for Utah students attending the St. George campus this coming spring (2018).  Congrats to all- I'm super excited to meet everyone!  Feel free to drop a line and introduce yourself.
A little on me- I work full-time in residential treatment and part-time as an Orderly in surgery.  I also play music and love the southern Utah landscape.  I currently live in SLC but can't wait to be a part of the St. George class.  Also I welcome any recommendations or leads on living situations since I'll be moving in late April/early May... any ideal areas to live?  Friends or relatives with rooms to rent?
      Again, congrats to everyone!
