jmj11 Posted February 21, 2015 I bet Michael loves it when he gets up in the morning and finds out some A-hole had wrecked his very good discussion board with their spam . . . not. Sorry Michael. I was really pissed with I created a bulletin page for our clinic and someone did the same . . . but with porn. I had to take down the page because I did have time to deal with it.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 21, 2015 Moderator I erased them all this am (and every am or in the middle of the night)....this really is a drag. new spam accounts every day. I ban all of them. I don't know how to filter new threads so anything with xyz goes right to delete.
cinntsp Posted February 21, 2015 Banuchi's last time logged on the boards was Jan 27, so he probably didn't notice. This forum badly needs additional moderators and an extra admin or two to keep spammers at bay and make updates like adding subforums for the new programs. It's too much work for a few busy PAs.

I agree with adding another admin and moderators. This is the most active PA forum I'm aware of and I would hate to see it turn into a dumpy site. I'm sure many, including myself, would volunteer to moderate it. There's a lot of work to be done as wel, such as adding new forums for PA schools.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 21, 2015 Moderator I have emailed Banuchi and asked him to add a few mod folks. no response yet.
Moderator ventana Posted February 22, 2015 Moderator I too am constantly deleting them another few mods would be a good idea
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 23, 2015 Moderator I too am constantly deleting them another few mods would be a good idea Thanks! was in contact with Banuchi yesterday. he is working on some stuff with the forum over the next few days.
SHU-CH Posted February 23, 2015 Are they coming from overseas? I used to run a discussion forum and used to block whole countries...
Moderator ventana Posted February 23, 2015 Moderator blocking whole countries and IP addresses seems like a good idea
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 23, 2015 Moderator Are they coming from overseas? I used to run a discussion forum and used to block whole countries... yes. all of them are from the middle east or russia.
waky02 Posted February 23, 2015 Ban all ip addresses from countries that don't have PA's or are not considering them
Guest Paula Posted February 24, 2015 I thought we were an open borders country. Come one, come all, no matter what.
Moderator True Anomaly Posted February 24, 2015 Moderator I thought we were an open borders country. Come one, come all, no matter what. Risk/benefit ratio. Benefit of possibly alienating a potential PA student posting from one of those countries is kinda being outweighed by daily spam clogging the forums. I'd volunteer for a mod position, if more are needed.
Derbingle Posted February 24, 2015 Possble suggestion for preventing the spam. Some websites require approval by the site after creating a "membership". It doesnt allow immediate posting but usually the next day or so. You could create this feature then just never approve them, then they expire after xyz days if never approved by a moderator. Maybe easier to approve new members than delete spam?

Guest Paula Posted February 25, 2015 The spam seems to be worse this morning. I think they are spying on the Forum.

Moderator ventana Posted February 26, 2015 Moderator I am also moderator on two other smaller board (much smaller) and the approval of new members does not stop spam I would think just blocking IP addresses automatically (not just user name - or does this happen already) might be helpful would hate to close an entire country, but the level of spam is pretty bad now...
