Dmartinez193
I wanted to know what PA's and MD's do exactly. Like what is the difference between the two. I know that MD's do a lot of paper work and note taking on patients well-being. I just wanted to know do PA's do the same thing? I guess, I am just really confused on how they are different. Please let me know. Thank you.
DiggySRNA
Hi! From what I've researched and read so far, PAs practice medicine the same way as MDs. The PA's scope of practice is limited to that of the collaborating physician(s), so a PA cannot perform something the physician isn't trained to do. PAs and MDs are not much different from each other because both medical professionals conduct physical examinations, formulate differential diagnoses based on signs & symptoms, chief complaints, interpreted lab results, etc. PAs prescribe medications the same way physicians can, and both do consultations and follow-ups. Based on my interpretation of data, the major differences between PAs and MDs is when it comes to billing (insurance companies), ordering hospice services, owning 100% of a clinic, and other administrative related tasks.. Overall, both professionals provide the same medical care and both are held equally responsible for such. A PA is held to the same standards of their physician counterparts. Hope this helps!
