Hello! I have applied for admission for fall 2015. Has anyone else applied? Also, does anyone have any feedback on the application/interview cycle? I'm anxious & excited! :)

I am still waiting on two letters to reach the school. I was informed that my file will not go to faculty for review until everything is received.. Have you heard anything yet?

I haven't heard back from the PA faculty as of yet. I did call admissions though, and they informed me that the faculty won't start reviewing until the deadline, so don't worry to much! lol I believe they will start to review everything next week, so I'm assuming we won't be hearing back until mid-late November.

On a side note, I hate the waiting process! haha I hope everything works out and we both get to the interview stage :D

Well, I sure hope if I am invited for an interview that it is sooner than later because I live out of state & will need to buy a plane flight.. Are you local?

I'm not from around either - coming from Toronto! Which state will you be traveling from? I hope we hear back around mid-Novemeber, so we can have the interview before any major snowfall haha.

Hi SonoSmith, I still have not heard anything. I must be annoying them with my calls but they said that they will mail the decisions soon. I'm not really sure when soon is though. I haven't had a chance to call them this week because they have been closed for the past two days because of inclement weather. I am going to try my best to patient though.

I received an invitation to interview by email on November 13th. I was able to choose from 2 dates & had chosen November 22nd, it has been postponed however, due to the weather. I hope you hear some news soon, best of luck to you!

Hello guys,

I'm new to this forum and very interested about applying to DYC's PA program for Fall 2016. I would really appreciate, if you could give me some insight information about how your interview went. Were there any surprises? What kind of questions were asked? Is it a group or one-to-one?

Thank you all for help!

Hi everyone, has anyone heard back yet from DYC?

I received a phone call today from my admissions counselor notifying me that I was accepted into the program! I had my interview Dec 6th. I suggest that if you haven't heard anything back yet, to definitely call DYC admissions, they'll tell you!

Good luck to everyone!!

-Mel

Hi Otashco,

It is a 3 on 3 panel, and they will ask one of you a question and then go down the line until everyone answers. It is slightly challenging, because you want to be creative and answer differently than the person next to you. I had my interview Dec 6th and was accepted, here are a few of the questions I recall being asked:

"How do you de-stress?"

"Elaborate on your patient care hours"

"In a situation where a patient is morbidly obese, and the medications are having adverse side-effects, what would you recommend to have this patient be taken off their medications for a better lifestyle? i.e. how would you create a plan to helping the patient become more active/healthy?"

"If you could change one thing in the health care system, what would you change and why?"

"How is the medical field integrated, in terms of nurses, physicians, physical therapists, OTs, NPs and PAs etc"

However, there is also a small test prior to your interview they have you fill out to try to gear what kinds of questions to ask specifically you, so be sure you're knowledgeable on the profession! They're going to want to know why you want to be a PA, why you deserve to be a PA, what makes you different than the person next to you, What's the difference between a PA and an NP? what's the relationship of a PA and an MD etc. Know the profession down cold!!

Remember, it's not about having the best grades--- it's about being yourself. As long as you show them you are a real person, and more than just a GPA, they'll be begging you to be apart of their program.

Hope I could help,

-Mel

You are most certainly welcome. Good luck with applications!! Be sure you get all materials in well before the due dates; it grants you more consideration because they have more time to look at your application!

I will definitely take that into consideration. In fact, I was going through your sample questions that may be asked during the interview and am little confused about the your last question:

 - "How is the medical field integrated, in terms of nurses, physicians, physical therapists, OTs, NPs and PAs etc"

Are they trying to find out, if you have any knowledge about integrated medical model or they are just trying to figure out if you know the difference between the professions?

Also, know that these questions may not be necessarily asked during your interview. I was prepared for more questions about the profession etc, but they really do care that you're a person first. Don't rehearse answers to the questions, you don't want to seem like a robot, try to just stay relaxed. Don't answer the questions instantly with the first thing that pops in your head, take a second and breathe and most importantly be honest! I'm not sure if anyone else here can vouch with me and say they also had these questions too though? I had Laura Grable and Elizabeth Quinn on my panel, and another PA who just graduated from the program... his name slips my mind unfortunately.

Oh also! I remember being asked "What is your greatest weakness"

Hope I helped!

I appreciate your responses. I do know that DYC offers mostly health related professional degrees. As far as I understood, they will most probably would want me to know the integrative medical care as opposed to segmental, where all health care providers would work in a relationship to provide optimum health care to the patient both physically and psychologically. Would you recommend me to prepare for behavioral and ethics related scenario questions? Did you get any on your interview?

Michael,

Thank you sir for being very helpful!
