Jengirl81
Does anyone have any experience working for United Healthcare or other insurance companies as a complex care PA? You do some traveling to homes and snfs to perform assessments. It sounds interesting/challenging, but could be a nightmare if you have a ton of patients on your panel. I have 5 years of urgent care/FP, and I have seen my fair share of "complex" patients within a 15-20 minute time slot. If you really get an hour per assessment, it does sound intriguing (if the pay is decent, considering your travel expenses). Any insight is appreciated! SocialMedicine
the idea of treating only complex and in need patients, being able to do home visits if necessary, and well compensated is a dream of most in medicine. I am willing to bet that's not what this job is. Are you actually treating, diagnosing, prescribing to these patients ? or is it more the insurance company confirming health issues and providing counsel to patients. Moderator ventana Posted September 8, 2014 Moderator Share Posted September 8, 2014 looked into it on the surface it was okay BUT then the more I found out - yuck no support, you have to schedule all your own patients, they were stingy on paying miles - had to be beyond 40 miles from home or some other BS, and they paid nothing for no shows. oh yeah and they had a very deceiving way of advertising their pay - it was per patient, but the higher pay rates only applies to the last few patients.... overall I realized pretty quickly that I would likely end up running around two separate counties, burning my own gas, wasting time, to get only okay pay, and having to do a ton of off hours work and booking, rebooking, telephone work..... Contrarian
Went through the entire hiring process with UnitedHealthcare a few yrs ago. At that time, up in the Seattle PNW area, they had a 80 patient cap per prescriber. They assigned me to 2 Large skilled nursing facilities and I was slated to serve as the primary care provider (basiclly Geriatrician) for about 80 elderly SNF/ALF patients. Pay was $109k/yr no travel. Everything was set up and ready to go, but then the HR guy/people pissed me off so I retracted my acceptance of their offer and took a COMPLETELY different job in Psychiatry.
