Moderator EMEDPA Posted September 6, 2014 Moderator Share Posted September 6, 2014 pros: increased recognition and pay when working for govt jobs fall back job if PA license has problems added ability to understand public health issues & solutions added ability to conduct and understand public health research more impressive resume for future teaching positions I like the dual pa/mph option and would have done one if they existed back in the day. I am in the process of finishing up a doctorate in health science & global health for many of the above reasons
KA Jackson
I agree with EMEDPA. It will help PAs students understand the healthcare system as a whole not just the individual patient. For instance it does not make sense to go to Business School and only learning microeconomics and passing up macroeconomics. Studying epidemiology can be helpful when dealing with a certain demographics. Above all, the opportunity to gain additional knowledge is always a pro in my book. Good luck.
