First interview invite, attire?

Recommended Posts

There are two safe options:

1. A Charcoal suit, black shoes and belt, white or light blue shirt, and a not too crazy tie of appropriate color.

2. A Navy suit, dark brown shoes and belt, white or light blue shirt, and a not too crazy tie of appropriate color.

A charcoal and a navy suit are something any man should have as they enter the professional world so invest in one if you don't own one already.  When you're thinking about spending that money, just remember that not getting in can cost you $100k in lost earnings from having to wait another year to become a PA.  Interviews aren't a fashion show but you don't want to stand out in a bad way.  Just my .02!

I'm curious as to why anyone would think a job interview would require anything less than a suit and tie.  Unless the invitation specifically states otherwise it should be assumed that it is a business occasion and appropriate business attire in required.

Wear the suit with the jacket and tie.

OMG yes professional dress. This is even more important for women. Men generally get the suit and tie memo. I've often been unimpressed by what some some consider business dress. No cleavage! Color is nice--in moderation. A dress or skirt (at or below the knee) is acceptable if you're not a suit type (I'm curvy and they never fit!) HOSE if your legs are showing--no bare legs--NOT professional. Tasteful hair, makeup and jewelry. No extremes. If you have no fashion sense ask a friend who has it for help. Wear comfortable dress shoes--you are likely to walk a lot.

So true!! One of the girls at an interview was wearing black leggings and a cardigan. She stood out like a sore thumb among a sea of suits. I kind of felt bad for her but really???
