Applicant Qualifications, Number Schools, EMT Clinical Training

Recommended Posts

Based on the following qualifications with light HCI, to how many schools shall I apply?  What are your recommendations on more HCE within the constraints listed.  The five schools for which I qualify within reasonable distance from family, with no or low minimum HCE are

Baylor, UTMB, LSU Shreveport, Harding University, and Thomas Jefferson University.

20 year old female

4.0 GPA in Biology going into senior year at Texas A&M University

85 direct patient care hours,

283 volunteer hours under a Child Life Specialist

40 PA Shadowing hours

GRE Anticipated 153 Verbal, 144 Quantitative, 3.5 Essay

If I do not get in a May 2015 matriculation, I will have only accumulated another 90 direct patient care volunteer hours during the school year, by the time that I have to submit CASPA for 2016.  I could get another 160 hours if I spend this August volunteering, which will not help on 2014 CASPA, but will on 2015 application because I need to submit by July 1st to have time for verification before the September 1st deadline. The hospital considers these hours to be direct care, although they may be questionable by CASPA definition.

Instead of volunteering, should I take an EMT Basic course, which includes 112 hours of clinical training at hospital and ambulance?  Then I could volunteer as an EMT for a few hours during the Spring semester and in June, 2015 before the 2015 CASPA application.

yes, but realize training hours can not be counted as hce. try to rack up as many hours as you can working as an emt.
