Good morning all. I saw this topic and thought I'd ask a couple of questions about application. I've been trying to get a meeting with Ms. Hoffman-Hodge, but until then maybe you guys could help me out.

I am currently a senior at FGCU and will graduate in December with a GPA north of 3.96. I will still be shy of Chem I, II, Organic and the silly Medical Terminology class, but will finish those up at Edison after I graduate since they are not included in my major. All my other science pre-reqs are currently at 4.0. I have been a firefighter/paramedic for 24 years and will retire in May of 2015. I also still have to sit for the GRE. I'll do a bit of shadowing between now and then and get my LOR's taken care of.

When does the application cycle start and how long is the period between application and start of classes (assuming I interview well and am accepted)? I'm trying to plan my application timeline with finishing these classes and retirement.

Must I have completed ALL pre-reqs before application or do they issue conditional acceptances?

Anybody know if they will accept an online version of Medical Terminology?

Im sure I'll think of more, but thanks for now.

Hi CCFireLt -

I'm in the incoming class of 2016 (we just had our orientation yesterday!) and I think I can answer a few of your questions. Talk to Claudia, I think she'll have more time on her schedule now that we're all out of her hair. But I think you should finish your application prior to graduating, as December is cutting it a bit close. I know they say they do interviews through March, but I think the class was pretty full after the February interviews. I think interviews start in October.

I think the application cycle is already open. I cannot remember when the deadline is for Nova, but probably early fall. Claudia will tell you when exactly. From what I recall, she told me to finish my CASPA in September and take the GRE in August. Since your GPA is already great, I don't think applying while still taking classes will hurt you, but I'm not on the admissions committee. :-) If you can handle the load, you might consider taking some of the Chem classes while you're still at FGCU, even if you take them at Edison. And, yes, you can take Medical Terminology online.

For us, orientation was yesterday, and we have another week of orientation next week, then classes officially start June 2.

Good luck!

The deadline is January 15th, 2015. I would call nova ft myers and see if they can get you in to see her. She will have a better plan of what you need to do. I know it is hard to apply without their previous reqs.

I'll be doing that this week now that her time should be somewhat freed up. Thanks!

Post Bacc GPA 4.0

GRE verbal 157, quantitative 148 and writing 3.5

Work as a CNA at a hospital

A good amount of volunteer hours

I will share mine

Overall GPA: 3.40

Science GPA: 3.27

Post bacc GPA: 3.8

GRE: verbal 152, quantitative 152, writing 4.5

PT tech: 550 hrs

Medical Assistant: 3100 hrs

ER volunteer/shift leader: 200 hrs

Fitness Specialist intern: 280 hrs

Various other volunteer hrs feeding homeless and working in free clinic: 80

Shadowing: ER - 20 hrs, Ortho - 10 hrs

I don't have the best stats either. However I'm hoping they take into account my upward trend and experience hours, as well as classes I didn't need for PA (physics, etc.) that brought my gpa down a bit.
