Just heard from them last week!!! Fingers crossed for more interviews...

I had a question about your patient care experience. After looking at the duke website I realized that your experience came from your research experience. Do most other school accept clinical research experience for paid HCE?

**P.S. I think the most highly qualified people are posting on this thread so I hope you wont see this thread and be discouraged. I seriously don't think that we're up against people who are all coming out of school with 3.8s. :) Also, I believe everyone has different strengths as candidates... I wish everyone good luck!

Well, I now have enough information to update this. The news is not good. Based on this I calculate a 98.76% chance I will not be going to PA school in 2009.

Undergrad Ed School: Multiple including Portland State, Assoc. General Studies/w EMS focus.

Cumulative Undergrad. GPA: 3.45, last 45 hours: 3.23

Science Undergrad. GPA: 3.35

Overall GPA : 3.45

Age at application time : 38

GRE: Not taken, not required at my programs.

Patient Care : ~40,000 hours (15+ years) paramedic and remote site medic, couple years as an EMT and CNA before then.

Extracurricular/Research Activities:

80 hours shadowing

4 years medical volunteer in Philippines (during high school)

Cited for "First ITLS Courses Taught in Iraq" (ITLS Bulletin 9/06)

Presented paper on pre-hospital ipratropium to Monterey County EMS Council resulting in protocol change for EMS.

Published HealthWatch newsletter for Bechtel Systems, Int'l.

Hobbies: Horses, music composition and performance, travel.

Schools Applied: Pacific University and University of Washington - MEDEX

Application Submitted Date: 1 September 2008

Schools Received Application Date: 15 October 2008

Interview Invites: 1, 1 waitlisted to interview, and so far down the waitlist that pretty much everyone would have to decline their interview for me to get one.

Denied: will update

Withdrew Application: 1. Had to decline my MEDEX interview. I was initially invited to interview in November. My ship is in West Africa and we do 5 week on/5 week off rotations. It is impossible in that region to get home early. I was offshore in November but MEDEX told me they would put me in for consideration for the interviews in late January, when I would be home. Good news: I was invited to interview. Bad news: The interview is January 7th. I'm offshore until January 14th, with no way home early except by resigning would be unwise when I have no guarantee of acceptance and 6 months before program start date. So, I have to decline, no way around it.

Waitlisted: 0

Accepted: 0

Attempts: first

Other: Working knowledge of Arabic, German, Tagalog, and medical Spanish. Have worked in 6 countries.

I guess I just work on my transcript, try to finish my Bachelor's, and try again next year. All I can say is: CRAP!
